Hello
I am looking for information on my Grandfather.
He was born on the 17th December 1890 I was told his birth was in Wroughton or could be Purton.
His full name is Wilfred George S Taylor. The S I believe stands for Strange. His Mothers name could be Mary Taylor. He went to live with his grandparents in Wootton Bassett at the age of 9 but I cannot find details of him previous to this and cannot confirm who his parents are which is what I want to trace.
Birth details Jan Feb march 1891 Highworth 533 5a 16
I have lots of information for him from 1901 but would love any info previous to this. If anyone can help I would be most grateful. Thank you x

1891 entry
William Strange 58 b Lyneham
Triphena 56 b Lyneham
Mary Taylor 20 niece b Wootton Bassett
Wilfred J Taylor 3 months visitor b Swindon (image shows J not G as middle initial)

You will need to buy a copy of his birth cert to confirm his parentage. I would have expected him to be shown as nephew if he was Mary's son

1891 census address is 73 Chapel St Gorse Hill Swindon Wilts
which falls in Highworth reg district
Wilfred's middle initial is clearly J on the image - but could have been misentered
Where did you find the name Strange as one of his middle names?
The Mar qtr 1891 birth reg just shows him as Wilfred G Taylor???
As carol has posted it would be wise to send for the birth certificate if you could.
Do you have your Grandfather's marriage cert - that would show father's name -or if it left blank then that would be an indication of him being illegit

Thank you to you both. I had found this Census, then assumed that is what the S standed for. Then a relative confirmed it was and said it was on his marraige certificate. However I cannot get more info from the family members being told to 'leave it alone'. I sent for his birth certificate and my money was returned stating
Thank you for your order as detailed below.
Birth Certificate: WILFRED TAYLOR born in HIGHWORTH
We have been unable to process your application, please refer to the paragraph below.
There is no trace of the above mentioned person at the reference you quoted
I got the reference from FBMD site
Thankyou again for the responses

Hi
I don't know what reference you used in your application but the GRO response suggests it was not correct and they were unable to link the reference you gave to a birth for Wilfred Taylor
This is what you say in your opening post
Birth details Jan Feb march 1891 Highworth 533 5a 16
But this is the reference from freebmd which does not have the figures 533
March qtr 1891
Wilfred George Taylor Highworth 5a 16
