Post by: Possum 26 on Monday 01 September 14 13:08 BST (UK)
I'm trying to find any  information about John Sinclair and His mother Catherine
I can't find  the death of John Sinclair He was born 24th May 1874 in Keig Scotland  his mum was Catherine Sinclair b 6 May 1853 I've run into a dead end
I don't know anything about his mother apart from her birth born Aberdeenshire, Scotland
I found 2 Catherine's in the 1881 census but they don't seem to fit
what can or where can I look next??
thankyou for any help

Hi Sandee

Have you identified a range of possible death dates for John?  Do you know whether he survived infancy/childhood, and has he been found in any census?

Only censuses I can find for Catharine are 1861 Crofts of Tulloch Aberdeenshire
John Sinclair 42 saw miller Fyvie
Amelia 32 chapel of Georie
John 10
Catharine 7
Amelia 4
George 2
David 8 mths.
She's left home by 1871 and is at Upper Balfour Tullynessle and Forbes as Kathrine Sinclair 16 born Keig general servant. Her brother George age 12 ag lab  is also there for a William (age 45 born Tullynessle )and his mother Isabella Reid(age 75) farmer.
Going by that I'd go for her being at Waterside Farm in 1881 at Tullynessle again as a servant, age 27 from Oyne.
No sign of John but I assume Catherine would have married by 1891.

Hello everyone
First  I think?? [not confirmed yet]   John and Amelia were Catherine's parents   not John's parents tho we think John was illegitimate Catherine defiant was his mother I had John and Amelia  names scribbled down with lots of ???? marks
Maureen were is it listed I have not seen that [I don't have access to Ancestry]
John was alive in 1891 He was at a place called Roadside farm so I know he was alive then
after that I lose him and cant find his mother

thankyou oh wow  I now have Amelia's last name I just don't know where to look I find all this technology very hard to get my head around
I know he John was at Roadside and It seems Catherine did marry James Adams
as John was around 18 when my grandfather was born John never married my gdfathers mother
she was left to raise him alone
I wonder what happened to John after 1891 tho

The grandparents died 1882 for Amelia Davie at Crofts of Tulloch and 1884 for John at Tullynessie
The best place for searching for births /marriage /death is on Scotlands People

I don't see a marriage on Scotlands People for Catherine and James adams ..and I don't think that is them on the 1881 census think the John mentioned there is the son of a Catherine Thomson born 1873 Aberdeen ..I think the best thing to do would be to get a copy of the birth certificate for John Sinclair 24/5/1874 to see if a fathers name is mentioned ... ???
