Hello
My 2x Grt Grandfather Joseph Walsh born c1886 in Dublin married Rosanna Murray in 1901 at St Andrews RC in Dublin.
The marriage cert stated that his father was a gentleman named Patrick Walsh and as a side note his mother was a Sarah ?????.
On the cert it states that Joseph was living at 44 City Quay. I cannot quite make out what Patrick Walsh occupation was.
I know that Joseph had a sister named Elizabeth Walsh born c1884.
I would love to see if there can be any sign of a marriage between Patrick Walsh and Sarah ????? and also if there are other siblings for Joseph and Elizabeth.
Many thanks in advance
Danny

Hello,
He would be very young when he married :-\
There is this family and Joseph is the right age but mum would be Mary http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Dublin/Trinity/City_Quay/1309940/
Regards
Heywood
Added Joseph is 25 yrs in 1911 so looks positive
-
Hello Heywood.
that's my bad. I was reading off my old notes and have yet to update my file. The mother was indeed Mary and not Sarah.
Danny
-
However he did marry Rosanna in September of the same year 1901.
Danny
-
Hi Danny
Can you post an image of the occupation to see can WE work it out ?
Tara
-
I have been looking for a Walsh/Finlay marriage but can't spot one yet.
-
I'll take a picture now and see what I can do.
Danny
-
I'm looking at this baptism as a possibility for Joseph !

There are other children to that couple Tara but not an Elizabeth :-\

I know !
I'm hoping she's mistranscribed somewhere ;D

Sorry about the size

Labourer
The curse of genealogy ;D
Tara

Was hoping for a job that is a bit easier to match lol

Found Anne Christine Finlays birth. Confused me though. Sheds light on the Patrick Walsh and Mary marriage though.

Danny

Could this be Elizabeth then !
http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/details/3a901e0252052
Which would make Sarah Foley, Mary Foley's illegitimate child ???
Tara
-
Confused ???
Think I need to write that out and make sense of it.
Danny
-
. . . a sister to Anne Finley !
http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/details/9f752e0261421
Tara
-
IF
Anne Finley was the daughter of
Sarah Finlay (nee Foley)
Then Sarah can't be a Walsh
So can only be a daughter of Mary's which would make Mary . . . Mary Foley
There are some other options like multiple marriage which we can look into too !
Tara
-
The two marriages you found for Patrick to Mary Foley and Mary Ledmond. Do we keep hold of the Ledmond or is that to be scrapped?
Danny
-
Did I find a Walsh / Foley marriage ?
HA I don't remember !
Give me a sec to scroll back !
Tara
-
You're working well, Tara :)
-
Sorry my bad. It was said the marriage could not be found.
Danny
-
HA I'm going barmy !
Anyway
I did see a Walsh / Foley marriage
BUT
it's 1888
http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/details/6569d20435012
That would make Joseph & Elizabeth illegitimate so we need to tread carefully now !
Tara
-
Was just going to post that and see what you thought.
This one is going to keep us busy ;D
Danny
-
With the exception of the Joseph Walsh to parents Patrick and Mary Ledmond there doesn't seem to be the birth for Joseph yet.
Gonna have a quick look now.
Danny
-
Can I just suggest for a mo that we 'park' the Anne Finlay situation.
I'm just worried that her description on the 1901 Census COULD be a red herring.
She could have been related numerous different ways and was just written down as Granddaughter # it's VERY common.
I think we need to KEEP looking for Joseph & Elizabeth leads.
What later address' do you have for Joseph Walsh ?
The prison records MIGHT give me a lead BU I need a good keyword to narrow down the possibilities !

Kids of Patrick Walsh and Mary Foley

The only addresses I have for Joseph and Rosanna at a later date are still in the City Quay area I think.
I'll check the 1911 census now.

1911 census

I have a lead !
It's back to Glasnevin we go . . .
In 1898 a Patrick Walsh with an address of City Quay was buried there.
He was aged 54.
Can I suggest that you get this burial plot record and hopefully we get some leads from it ~ others buried in it etc !
Tara
-
Which of their children was your direct ancestor and where were they born ?
Actually, do me a favour and list ages and names for all their kids . . .
I might get a lead with one of the kids !
Tara
-
As I recall Patrick never made it onto the 1901 census did he? Mary was a widow so it would make sense to be him.
I'll take a look very soon.
Danny
-
It was Patrick and Marys son Joseph (that married Rosanna) that is my direct ancestor.
I only know of Joseph and Elizabeth.
Danny
-
Sorry I should have been clearer . . .
Which of Joseph & Rosanna's children is your ancestor ?
Any details on them might help me work backwards !
Tara
-
John Joseph Walsh born in 1919 in Dublin was my direct ancestor.
There were other kids by the names of Patrick, Joseph, Mary Anne, William, Rosie and Cornelius.
I will have to check years of births but they vary from 1904 to 1926.
Danny
-
I'll try with those ~ thanks !
BTW Did you see my message re Glasnevin ?
Tara
-
Excellent. I did see the Glasnevin post. I have to pop out to take my little girl back to her mother but I will purchase the credits as soon as I get back. Either that or I'll do it on my mobile depending if I can be patient enough lol.
Danny
-
No Rush
Look after your little girl :D
Tara
-
OOOHHHH
In 1895 a 34 year old Sarah Finlay was buried in Glasnevin and her address was CITY QUAY !
Tara
-
more Finlay confusion
Denis Finlay was convicted in 1901 of stealing coal, his next of kin is Maria Finlay of 42 City Quay this may have kept him off the 1901 census however
1901 Census of 42.1 City Quay shows
Maria Fennelly age 25 married
Christopher age 3
Maria age 2
this census form was filled out by the enumerator so he obviously wrote what he thought he heard
Maria say her name was.
Edit later
initial system 1901
F D age 25 Kimainham prison,born Kilkenny,coal labourer,married
-
I'm getting a sneaky suspicion that Mary Walsh ie wife of Patrick Walsh was born Mary Curtis !
I THINK this is her first marriage
http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/details/f4bc170021823
NOTE THE ADDRESS
I think then that this is the baptism for her daughter Sarah, who went to be Mrs Finley !
http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/details/813cfd0223920
Tara
-
SO
If my theory is correct then these are more children from her first marriage !
Son John Foley
http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/details/b2cd2b0226557
Daughter Mary Foley
http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/details/c2ac9a0229160
Tara
-
SO
It appears that in 1867 James Foley died.
He is buried at Glasnevin with an address of City Quay.
Tara
-
SO
Mary Curtis' first husband James Foley dies in 1867.
She then meets Patrick Walsh in the following years.
We can see a daughter Catherine born to them in 1875
http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/details/1d78410243822
We can also see a daughter Elizabeth born to them in 1882
http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/details/3a901e0252052
Joseph was obviously born around 1885 (still to find baptism)
It would appear then that Patrick and Mary went on to married bliss in 1888
http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/details/6569d20435012
Who knows why Mary used her married name for her children's baptisms, it was more than likely to cover up the situation.
Anyway,
That's how it all looks to me ;D ;D ;D
Tara
-
Hi Dathai
They can only be related to Sarah's inlaws at best !
Tara
-
Again Danny
PLEASE double check all my theories
BUT
If my latest one of Mary Cutis pans out that this appears to be her parent's marriage
http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/details/3c8d770421649

YIPPPPPPPPPPPPPP
I just found another record for Catherine b 1875 and on this one her Mum's maiden name has been recorded as CURTIS
ALSO
There is another record for William Walsh b 1878 and on this one his Mum's maiden name has been recorded as CURTIS
So
She must have put both her names on the records !
Anyway
All my above theories were correct.
I'm patting myself on the back here ;D ;D ;D ;D
Tara
-
Thank you so much Tara for all your hard work :) I've had a very busy night but tomorrow I'm dedicating all day and night to this so be aware that I will be about lol

Blush
Ha MY Self praise is no praise ;D
So, it makes it super nice to hear it from you guys !
BUT I have to say I have enjoyed this journey with Danny . . .
I suppose I should leave him to fill in any other bits and bobs ;D
Tara
-
I've spent the day putting all the info into order and checking on a few things etc.
I'm very very thankful for all your hard work ;D
I'm going to try and concentrate on a few individuals at a time now to fill in blanks etc. Deborah Redmond interests me a lot.
Danny
-
That's the best thing to do now Danny.
You have a rough draft now in place of the 'big picture' ~
The next stage is the fun part where you can go in and concentrate on each individual and build up a picture of them.
See if you can google images of streets that they lived on, the churches that they were baptised and married in, attach or print the information from all the sites that we have spoke about.
Bring each person 'to life' !
OH and double, double check that all is correct.
Do Enjoy :)
