Post by: dobbin on Monday 25 August 14 22:35 BST (UK)
Hi
Would anyone have access to any records for Ruthin Road Burial Ground in Wrexham and be able to do a look up for me please. I'm looking for a burial of Matthew Mulligan 1871. He was between 61 and 69 years old (Different ages via census details). Any help is most welcome, Thankyou

Hello dobbin,

There is a burial for Matthew Mulligan in Brymbo, near Wrexham, on 4 October 1871. He is shown as aged 68 years. This puts his year of birth at 1803. His abode is shown as Pentre Felyn.

I have to say that the age isn't all that clear in the registers. It has been transcribed as 68 but could be 66 from my examination.

Jo.

Hi Jo
Thank you so much, that is the one I am looking for, that's brilliant. Would you happen to know whether it was a public grave or a private one?

That's really great Jo, thanks again.

if this is from FindMyPast then it`s best to check the register. very often Wrexham (St Giles) is shown as Brymbo. Just a thought.

Hi Wilcoxon

That's marvellous thankyou so much, I don't live in Wrexham but I have visited (a good few years ago) to see the graves of others in Wrexham Cemetery. Whilst I was there I went into St Giles never knowing at the time that further ancestors are there so I know exactly where that is. I think another trip is on the cards for me.

Thank you for your help, I am most grateful.

Even though the names are in the Church Parish Register, they are most likely to be buried in Ruthin Road graveyard.
The Ruabon Road cemetery opened in 1876 and all "new" plots were opened there , Ruthin Road was still used for a few years for existing plot owners.

You said you've been to Ruabon Road, I did a quick search and found quite a few Mulligans, and then did a Grave number search which found a few more that were spelt differently.
There are also a few "strays" . grave number is the last, so I`ve grouped them together.

Ah Right I see, I found a map somewhere online today which I think showed the Ruthin Rd old burial ground so it wasn't too far from where they all lived.

I know the Ruabon road opened in 1876 and the Mulligans you list are all related. They are the graves I've visited. There are a couple of names mixed in there that I can't tie in but I'll have to contact cemetery office about them. I found another grave there (not Mulligan) that has 2 people listed in a grave that are not actually there. Even though I checked it about 8 years ago these people are still showing as being in there) I couldn't tie them in and when I went to the office they checked the original books for me so I wondered whether it might be like that with the names here I don't recognise.  I've also noticed this afternoon in the online burial records I've checked for various  siblings, children, etc some of them appear to have another burial listed which supposedly took place many years after the last person I was searching for. These I cannot relate either but that's a whole other story to research. I even wondered whether they had started re-using the grave numbers but in a different section ( i e 2 graves with the same number but in different sections of the cemetery)but it shows up online as being in one grave, I don't know it's just a thought I had.

Could someone please look up the grave of Thomas Morrey, landlord of Horns Inn, Bridge Street, Wrexham. He died at home 24 March 1863 aged 53. Who else is buried with him or either side of him please?
