Not the best news to hear >:(
In the local press 23 March 1943 [Hobart]
Grace George petitioned for divorce from
John Joseph George for desertion. A Mr Piggott (instructed by Johnson, Mitchell, and
Laughton) represented the wife, Mrs George. She said she married John Joseph in 1909, and things went well until 1939. She said her husband wént to
Launceston for health reasons, and
in the following month she read in
the Press that he had been charged
with bigamy.
Apparently he married a neighbour whilst still married to Grace. But that would need validating.

A gentle reminder that it breaches copyright to copy and paste from ancestry.com and other websites. It isn't the information that is copyright but the format of the transcript. The work must be your own.

Haven't looked at trees... :)
The Advocate 6 Dec 1944
Mabel Marion Brooks sought to have her marriage with John Joseph George annulled on the ground that the marriage was bigamous. Petitioner said that in June,1939, George went through a form of marriage with her and they had co-habited at Kingston. He told her later at the Royal Hobart Hospital that he had been charged with bigamy because he had been married and his real wife was still living. After George had given corroborative evidence, Sir John granted a decree.

Perhaps some certs MAY help. The 1909 marriage cert should give you information about John's place of birth, his parents' names including his mother's maiden name and father's occupation.
Cando

I did wonder if that was him in 1949, no occupation with his medical issues makes sense.
Geoff

He was buried at Carr Villa Cemetery at Launceston on 1 Nov 1949. He was at that same address on the 1943 roll. He was noted as an invalid pensioner in one of the news items. Election day was 10 Dec 1949.

Yeah, it's still not comfortable, with lack of DOB and parents it's still up in the air, as you say a cert. of some kind may clinch it :-\

Do you know any details of this family? e.g. parents of JJG?

No, sorry, but I am sure there will be other RChatters along with quality understanding of researching in Tasmania. I tend to be very NSW centric.
