Hi all. Not sure I'm posting in the right place. Have posted on this subject before. Looking for my GG Robert Mcdougall born in Kirkcudbrightshire Scotland 20/10/1873 emigrated to NZ around 1911/2 and died there in 1959. Owned a sheep farm which he left in a will to his sons, One of which was my Grandfather. I have found a few Rbt MCs but not the correct one. can anyone help please?

Scotlandspeople has one Robert McDougall born in Kirkcudbrightshire between 1872 and 1874, listed as born in the parish of Troqueer.
Spending seven of your Earth pounds will reveal the names of his parents, his mother's maiden name and the date of their marriage. You can use your spare credits to look up the marriage certificate which will specify the names (including maiden names) of the bride's and groom's parents, and you still have credits left over to check the 1881 Census where you might find whether he had any siblings.

Hello,
There is one death recorded of a Robert McDougall in 1959. However he was aged 90 years, thus making his year of birth about 1869.
If you are certain this is the man you are researching you should consider purchasing a printout of his death registration. This is cheaper and may contain more information than a certificate as it similar to a photocopy of the registration entry. Can also be e-mailed to you.
www.dia.govt.nz/births-deaths-and-marriages
Have a look here for "Data Collected" as this will give you an idea as to what information to expect on the printout, bearing in mind however, this is only as reliable as the knowledge of the person providing the details relating to the deceased.
A probated will (1959) is held at Archives in Wellington. If you don't already have a copy of this, you could ask for a look up under a new topic.

Hello again,
There is also the death of a Robert McDougall in New Zealand in 1958, aged 86 years. His year of birth would therefore have been about 1872, which is closer to that of the man you are looking for.
Do you have proof that your Robert died in 1959??

Hello...
[...] emigrated to NZ around 1911/2
EDIT:
The BDM NZ website has the likely marriage for this couple as happening in 1906... so more than likely not your man

As this topic has appeared previously under the heading, "Brick wall- Robert McDougall 1873-1958", perhaps it should be merged with the present one?

Hi Angib,
You have said that you have a lot of information about Robert McDougall. I think it would be beneficial if you could share some of this with us.
Do you know if Robert's wife came to New Zealand? What was her name? On another forum you indicated that children may have been born here. Can you provide some names please? [By PM, if you think there is a chance that they may still be alive.]
What information do you have which leads you to believe that Robert arrived in New Zealand around 1911-1912?
You state that Robert died in New Zealand in 1959. Do you have proof of this? Or what leads you to believe it was this particular year?
Any snippets of information may help us to help you.........

Hi Guys Thankyou for trying to help. This is everything I have to date.
Robert Mcdougall 20/10/1873 Kirkcudbrightshire Scotland.
Parents James and Agnes Mcdougall (nee Rutherford)
Met a Mary Elder and had a child Robert Mcdougall jnr (not Married)
Born Dec/1904 Hexham Northumberland England Baptised New Abbey 1905 RC
!911 census shows both Roberts as living with James and Agnes in Troqueer Dumfries Scotland.
My Grandfather (Rbt Jnr) told me that his father left him and went to live in New Zealand when he about 6 so as on census 1911 Rbt senior probably left 1911/12 The only time he was ever heard of again was when a letter arrived stating that Rbt Jnr had inherited a share in a sheep farm with his 2 brothers. Rbt Jnr declined it and sadly threw the letter away. He wanted nothing to do with his father as he felt he had been abandoned. That's all I have
-
My uncle has told me the letter arrived and said Rbt Snr died 1959 I guess it could be worth searching for a few years either side of that. I have no idea of the other sons names or where he lived Thanks

Hello,
Because of the one hundred year cut off point, births registered approx. after today in 1914 do not appear yet on the NZBDM on line index, so we don't have much leeway between this and Robert's possible arrival in this country around 1911 to find the two McDougall boys born here.
There are only two male births with a Robert McDougall , (one in 1911, the other in 1912) as father and neither are possibilities. Nothing appearing under the surname with only one "l" either.

... born in 1873, emigrated to NZ around 1911/2 and died there in 1959. Owned a sheep farm...
Hello...
Could 1959 actually be 1949.
There is a Robert MacDOUGALL b.1872-ish d.1949 buried at Mangatainoka Cemetery. He was a farmer married to an Alice.
Tararua District cemetery search http://www.tararuadc.govt.nz/Living_Here/Community_Facilities/Cemeteries?id=34 (http://www.tararuadc.govt.nz/Living_Here/Community_Facilities/Cemeteries?id=34)
He is possibly the Robert McDOUGALL who married an Alice FROUDE in 1913
James Froude MacDOUGALL b.1916 d.1981 is most likely their son. Maybe named after James, Robert's father.
1981/25964 - MACDOUGALL, James Froude - d.o.b 14 April 1916
There is also a John Froude MacDOUGALL b.1914 d.1975 buried at Mangatinoka. Maybe another son.
1975/48852 - MACDOUGALL, John Froude - d.o.b 11 November 1914
---
His parents were James and Agnes nee Rutherford
For what it's worth, the NSW BDM website lists a 1957 death for a Robert McDOUGALL, son of John and Agnes.
John and James are often interchangeable. Same goes for Australia and New Zealand when you're on the other side of the world.
Maybe ask on the Aussie board for help in finding a burial record.
