Title: Witnesses to a marriage in Tynemouth (YOUNG, RIDLEY)
Post by: Newfloridian on Friday 22 August 14 15:11 BST (UK)
I have one of those curious coincidences that could lead me to tie a couple of loose ends together in my family tree.

I have a copy of the marriage certificate of James Miller TEMPLEMAN and Eleanor YOUNG which took place at Hold Saviours Church, Tynemouth on May 3rd 1866. One of the witnesses was Isabella RIDLEY.

My family of interest had branches which lived on both sides of trhe river in North and South Shields.

Head of the family, Matthew NESSWORTHY married Mary RIDLEY in 1842
They eldest son Robert RIDLEY NESSWORTHY married Elizabeth YOUNG in 1862.

The TEMPLEMANs were next door neighbours of the NESSWORTHYs for many years in South Shields. I am close to linking these four families by marriage over the generations but not quite near enough.

Can anyone help?

I have a family of Nessworthy living in North Shields, mainly Preston, who have links across the river to South Shields and the Durham mining community. Robert Ridley Nessworthy seems to have been a name passed on through the generations, as there are 2 in this particular branch- Robert Ridley Nessworthy senior, wife Susannah L. Spooner, and his son Robert Ridley Nessworthy junior, 1879 to 1957, and his wife Hannah Wile, 1881 to 1958. The Wiles were miners, so perhaps the Nessworthys were too. Try looking up the Durham Miners website, and also the Preston Village North Shields website, where I believe some of the Nessworthys have posted stories.

Hello,

I am wondering if perhaps you have the family information for the Bride Eleanor YOUNG?  Would you be willing to share it?  I know it has been a few months since you posted, but I just joined and am looking for information related to the YOUNG family.

Thanks In Advance

Very little to add, I'm afraid. Her age at marriage was given at 24 years and her father was listed as mariner Benjamin Young.

I've been charting families who were both seamen and boat builders and there did appear to be a fairly free interchange between North and South Shields.

--------------------------------------------

Other Young family members that have come to our notice:

Robert Gordon Young (b 1887 d 1970) married Lilly Harrison (South Shields 1909) - three known children.
One son married into our main family of note - Nessworthy

-------------

Robert Young (b abt 1815 Norfolk) married Mary Ann Trail (South Shields 1835)
two known children: younger daughter, Elizabeth Young  married Robert Ridley Nessworthy 1862.

This family were neighbours to the Templemans.

It would be great to be able to connect these Young twigs together.

Do let me know if you have any further information

Alan

Awe, unfortunately not the family I was hoping for :)

The Young's I am hoping for were primarily blacksmiths/coal industry workers or police officers.  Thanks for sharing! :) There was an Eleanor Young D/O Joseph Young (police officer) and Eleanor Smith (according to christening records)...and that who I was hoping this Young would be!

Thanks again
