I am looking for information on a Hugh SHARROCK
Hugh SHARROCK, gives his birthplace as Rufford on census records, c1813
A niece Jane Sharrock living with him on 1861 census, tracing her back, gives a John as her father, born Rufford c 1815, a possible brother for Hugh
1841 census gives a John living with a Hugh Sharrock b c 1766, thus, a possible father for Hugh.
Thank you

Hi junket.
There is a Christening for a Hugh Sharrock on the 21st April 1811 at St Marys Church Rufford Lancashire stating parents as Richard and Jane Ashcroft Sharrock. I found this on Family Search.
Regards Dave.

Hello junket,
The same baptism is on Lancs opc. There is also a Richard 1809 with the same parents.
I can't see a John Sharrock with the same parents although there is one 1815 son of Thomas and Ellen.

Thanks to both of you.
Richard is the father, I have found the 2nd marriage of Hugh on the OPC site, which gives his father as Richard.
Do you know if Liverpool is far from Rufford, please? As Hugh's first wife is listed as Mary on the 1841 census and there is a possible marriage listed on the OPC and BMD, in Liverpool.
-
hi junket.
Rufford to Liverpool is about fourteen miles give or take a mile or two.
Dave.
-
Thanks Dave, I'm out of my comfort zone in Lancashire.
I had Hugh's 3rd marriage from BMD which is my interest, have now found this also on the OPC site,

There is a thread from 2013 july stating this
John Webster married Margaret Sharrock from Burscough at Manchester Cathedral, 12th June 1861 - Margaret was the daughter of Hugh Sharrock, a Rufford boatman. He worked on Mersey Sailing Flats and was skipper of the 'Mary' at Anglesey during the 1861 Census.
was your Hugh Sharrock a boatman /then a skipper ??
the thread is on Cheshire board about Runcorn Boatmen

"Thomas Sharrock 45 farmer
Jane 40
Betty 15
Ann 10
Jane 8
Thomas 5
Hugh 3
Richard Caunce aged 70 ....................I don`t envy you as it appears there are quite a few Sharrock in Rufford and Hugh is a family Christian name frequently used
-
If your ancestors from Rufford were Boatmen you may be interested in the 'Boat Families' site, run by Ormskirk and District Family History Society. (This covers Rufford).
There are many people named Sharrock listed on there; See;

Thank you so much.
My Hugh, was a labourer, son of a farmer ( Richard ), in 1840
labourer, in 1845
farmer in 1857
Census entries give him as ag lab also.
In my searching I have come across Sailor for some Sharrocks, with a sailor / tailor ? on some records.
I am slowly trying to piece together the family, hoping to find where neice Jane fits in.
-
Hi Junket --- I can sympathise with the Sailor/Tailor quandary. I have families from around the same area -- and for ages thought that one of them was a Tailor. He turned out to be a Boatman -- hence 'Sailor'.

just on the off-chance.
you are connected to any of the following then by all means shout out.
