I happened to come across a listing for my grandmother, Effie Pearl McLean, who married James Harper in 1904. I am her granddaughter through her second marriage to Joseph Crowe. (1911) Her eldest son from that marriage was my father, Louis Archibald Crowe. Her mother was Jenny Thompson (I traced this through the Thompson family) who was born in Quebec in 1854. I was most interested in finding more about my great grandfather, Neil McLean. Jennie and Effie headed west and Jennie left her husband in Fernie, BC. The family, including Effie's son, Gordon Harper, lived in Rossland, BC. :D Hoping to find about more about this line! :)

Hi there
I'm Gordon Harper's granddaughter from his one of his 3 daughters. My mother's name was Effie-jean Patricia Harper and she was his youngest daughter. I live in Calgary Alberta would like to learn more about the Mclean family line.

I am looking at a photo of Effie Jean being held by her grandmother, Jennyie Thompson McLean! lol
This is pretty incredible! Please tell me more about your family. My dad, Louis Crowe, was born in 1913. He died in 1998. I know that Gordon was about 10 years older? I don't know much more. Gordon moved where? I was born in Trail BC in 1950....my dad never left the area. I did, though, moving to northern Vancouver Island in 1973 as a high school teacher. I met all of my four husbands up here! lol I have two daughters and two granddaughters. I retired 5 years ago, but went back to work this fall...crazy, eh? Let me know about you and yours!

Neil McLean died in Fernie. That's where Jennie dumped him and then she continued on to Rossland with her daughter Effie and grandson Gordon. Effie married Joseph Crowe in 1911. He was in his 50's at the time! That's as much as I know about Neil. I will keep searching and will let you know if I find out more.

Here is a link to the death record of a Neil McLean who died in Fernie on 9 January 1912.

It states he was born in "Leitchfield" on 6 May 1849 and his parents were Daniel and Mary Allan. The fact that he was born in "Leitchfield," which probably refers to Litchfield, as well as the fact that he died in Fernie, suggests strongly that this is your Neil McLean.
