Have received this message today from Ancestrry.

Note:  The Ancestry.co.uk website will undergo scheduled maintenance on Wednesday, 13 August
2014, from approximately 6 a.m. to 12 p.m. (GMT). During that time, some portions of the site may
be unavailable. Thank you for your patience.

We’re making updates that may impact your Ancestry experience. Certain features on Ancestry
will have reduced functionality or may not be supported when using Internet Explorer 8 or 9.
Check out the recommended browsers for more information.

We’re making updates that may impact your Family Tree Maker experience. Starting in October 2014, Ancestry Web Search within Family Tree Maker software will have reduced functionality
or may not be supported by Microsoft Windows XP, Microsoft Windows Vista or
Internet Explorer 8 or 9.

Moving forward, Microsoft Windows 7 or 8 will be required for Ancestry Web Search functionality
to work properly.

Looks like trouble ahead for users of Win XP/Vista using IE 8 or 9.
We'll wait for the flak to start

Jim

Not again.....have they any plans to extend or pay back any subs of those of us who cannot use the site properly. My husband received an email last week offering him 49pounds off an annual sub.He didn't use it thankfully but I bet there are so e out there who did.
It's not an improvement if we cannot use it properly.....probably some young whizz kid behind it.Im so annoyed

I suppose as Microsoft has given up on XP, Ancestry don't see any need to have programs that support XP/Vista.

Vista is still supported by Microsoft for now.  However, you could try installing Google Chrome or Firefox because I gather the newest versions will install on XP.  At least that would enable access to ancestry's website through an internet browser.

Yes, I've got vista and can't upgrade from IE9 but I've installed google chrome and that seems OK - so long as I remember to use it not IE !!!
