My mum passed away recently and trying to trace her family. I know my grandmother May Foster is buried in Stone broom my grandfather was James Baugh my mother was Glens Baugh she was born on 29/10/1939 she told my sister she was born in Stonebroom.bit kept mentioning Crich to me, she used to work in a moll in Matlock. Does the name Baugh or Foster from Stonebroom.or Crich ring any bells to anyone. She said she had gypsy blood on her if this helps. Just trying to trace where where she came from thank you Samantha

Hiya and welcome to Rootschat!
I wonder if your grandmother had a name other than May - there is a marriage between James Baugh and Beatrice M Foster in Chesterfield registration district in Jun qtr (ref 2b 2061)
-
Hi and welcome to Rootschat.
I am having problems finding your mother's birth on Freebmd in 1939, but this looks like her in 1938
Births Dec quarter 1938
Baugh Glenys A Foster Chesterfield 7b 926
This shows her mother's maiden name was Foster and the birth was registered in the Chesterfield district. Places that come under Chesterfield can be found here. http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/reg/districts/chesterfield.html
Her birth certificate would give the address where she was born. You can order this from the GRO at a cost of £9.25 http://www.gro.gov.uk/GRO/content/certificates/default.asp

I always thought they were married but has come tonight they wasn't. May died young she fell down stairs and died from a blood clot my mum was a young child when this happened. I know she has several siblings one called Barry Baugh, my grandfather James Baugh met someone else unsure if they married but he also died young from what I have been told and the children went into care.
-
Yes that is my mum ty I am sure my step father has her birth certificate somewhere I know my grandmother May is buried in Stonebroom
-
Stonebroom would come under the Chesterfield registration district
-
Possible death for Beatrice May Baugh - Sept qtr 1945, Chesterfield 7b 596 - dob abt 1903
-
If you look on Freebmd you will see the births of 3 older children with Father Baugh and mother Foster. A girl in 1928, a boy in 1930 and a girl in 1934. I wont put their names here incase they are still alive.
If that is the right family, then your grandparents did marry in 1927 as Spidermonkey said.
-
Two children born after your mother one in 1941 and another in 1944, including the one you mentioned.
What made you think they didn't marry?

I always thought they had but my sister is under the impression they didn't. I always thought they had.

My uncle.barry died in 2010 aged 68. Mum said he was the last of her siblings she was the last one alive. The name Enoch does ring a bell to me.
-
I can't thank you all enough my mum.passed away last Friday 08/08/2014 you have filled a big void for myself and.my sister nit knowing where we come from xx thank you so much xxx
-
If that is the correct family, and I'm fairly sure it is, they definitely married.
Okay, as you have confirmed they are all dead, here are your mother's siblings All Baugh with mother's maiden name Foster and all born Chesterfield:
Joan 1928
James 1930
Mavis 1934
Glenys A 1938
Barry 1941
Jacqueline 1944
Really sorry to hear of your loss. Do you want me to try and go further back, or would you like to do that yourself?
-
I would appreciate that so much I have wondered all my life about mum's side xx my mum is at peace now think her death hasn't hit me yet but it will x I am fortunate enough to have my mum's temperament x thank you x
-
My youngest daughters middle name is Jacqueline which is a coincidence but a very endearing one :-)

1891 Enoch's family
RG12; Piece: 3763; Folio: 78; Page: 12
Temple Street, Castleford, Pontefract, Yorkshire
James Baugh 52 head coal miner Wolverhampton, Staffordshire
Ellen Baugh 61 wife Wolverhampton, Staffordshire
Enoch Baugh 23 son coal miner Wolverhampton, Staffordshire
In 1881, Enoch and his mother were living at 7, Ct 1 Albert Street, Kimberworth, Rotherham, She said she was married, so James may have been working away from home at the time of the census. Enoch aged 14 was described as a miner.
-
Thank you I wouldn't know where to start xx this means so.much to.myself, my sister and our children x
-
There is a possibility that Ellen was James's second wife, so not Enoch's mother as this is the 1871 census:
RG10; Piece: 2940; Folio: 134; Page: 20
Bilston Road, Wolverhampton, Staffordshire
James Baugh 32 coal miner Wolverhampton
Mary Baugh 31 Wolverhampton
Enoch Baugh 4 Wolverhamptob
-
Yes, it looks as if she did die - so Enoch's mother was Mary, not Ellen - she was his stepmother
Deaths Dec 1874
BAUGH Mary 35 Wolverhampton 6b 343
Here is James's second marriage
Marriages Mar 1876
Baugh James Wolverhampton 6b 700
Russel Ellen Wolverhampton
-
Here is James's first marriage
1864 June quarter
Baugh James Wolverhampton 6b 703
Watkiss Mary Wolverhampton
So these are your great great grandparents.
-
This is your great great grandfather's family in 1841. This is the earliest census, so at the moment is as far back as I can go for you on that side. As you can see, he had a brother Enoch, so that is obviously why he used that name for his son.
They were living in Wolverhampton and were all born in Staffordshire.
Hope all that helps.
John Baugh 45 Stone miner
Fanny Baugh 45
Edward Baugh 15
John Baugh 12
Joseph Baugh 10
Isaiah Baugh 6
Enoch Baugh 4
James Baugh 2

-
Glad to have been of help and I'm pleased it has given you some comfort at this sad time. I will have a look later and see if I can find out anything about the Foster side of the family, but being a more common name that is harder to make sure it is the correct family. There may be someone else on here who can help as well.
Take care
Jan
-
Thank you Jan I can put into words how much what you have done for my mum and my family xx thank you beyond words x

I believe that Beatrice's parents were
James Foster born 1857 Bridge Carston Lincolnshire (cant find where this is) There is a James Foster born 1857 and registered Louth Lincolnshire. Amongst the places covered by the Louth registration district is Castle Carlton, wonder if that is it.
Elizabeth born 1858 Easton Northamptonshire.
Interestingly, in 1901 they were living as boarders in New Street, Claylane, Chesterfield, in a house next door but one to Enoch Baugh, Agnes Baugh and their one year old son, James. So it is possible that the two families knew each other, maybe James Baugh and Beatrice May Foster played together as children.
If you want to follow this family back any further, I think you would need to get Beatrice May's birth certificate to make sure this is her father and to find her mother's maiden name.
