I have just located a death record for one of my relatives and wondered if anyone can give me the details please:
Name: Ann Main Gowdy
[Ann Main Capes]
Father: Capes
Birth: date - location
Death: dd mm 1952 - Los Angeles
She was born in Hull in 1914 and her Father was KIA in 1917 in Arras. She married William A. Gowdy of Belfast who was a footballer.

There was a border crossing from Canada to the USA for Ann Main Gowdy born 8 March 1912 Aberdeen Scotland and aged 36 years, arriving Blaine, Washington 24 July 1948. Residence Place:
San Pedro California. Housewife.
5ft 4 in - 112 lbs - medium complexion - brown hair and blue eyes.

The New York passenger List for 31 October 1947 also says she was born Aberdeen Scotland. Travelling with William Gowdy (Belfast Ireland - Master welder.) and a daughter A who was born in Hull. Nephew Albert H Cooke.
Meadowbank Road Hull. Going to niece Mrs peter Buchan, 926 12 th Street San Pedo California.
Have you got the daughters marriage ? Think the husband's death may be listed on Daily Times Obit Index.

Hi Sandra...That's really interesting...No... I lose her after her marriage in Hull in 1935 where she is listed as living in Meadowbank Road and going to live in Belfast.
I have just photographed Thomas Cape's headstone in Bailleul Road Cemetery in Arras and would love to give his Grandchildren a copy.

Shows her as b. Scotland, daughter of Thomas Capes (b. England) and Jessie Main (b. Scotland), spouse of William Alexander Gowdy (living, and the informant). She was buried at Green Hills Memorial Park.

Here is the NY passenger list. "Gowdy" then "Goudy" written on top. They are travelling with Ann's mother, Jessie Capes.

That's really good info you have found and I really appreciated the time you have both taken..I have found her Daughter's Birth now in Hull...I never thought to look there as the newspaper cutting of her wedding says that she was going to live in Belfast where her Husband was born.
I have a few gaps filled in now and thanks so much :-*

I'm a bit disappointed to see the Passenger list entry giving Jessie and Ann's birth as Scotland...especially when Ann's Daughter is clearly listed as born in Hull ???

Hi Sandra! My name is TARA Clarke. Jesse Main Capes was my great grandmother and Anne Capes Gowdy was my grandmother. Jesse was definitely born in Scotland and so was Anne. Are you a relative? I’d love to know more!
