Revisiting old research files and I have many documents in Word95 format [I began my research back in 1999].
Now using Windows 8.1 + Kingsoft Writer which doesn't recognise Word95.
I do have Office 2003 on XP machine, but hesitant about putting it onto new PC just to read these documents.
Ideas?

Have you tried Open Office? https://www.openoffice.org/

Many documents open in Google docs if you have a gmail account, email it to yourself there and try it.

Thanks for all suggestions - think I was having a Senior Moment when I posted originally, but have now found a WordViewer that opens all my old documents.
Found it on the Microsoft Download site:

my son's tip is to save as much as possible in Rich Text .. ( I know that's no good in retrospect!)
I now save nearly all my notes and Word Docs as Rich text - ok I lose a bit of formatting, but unless you've complicated bullets or embedded stuff, it works a treat.

Thank you for that suggestion as well - might try it as I go through my files.
