Title: Guy and Shaw families, Belfast, Northern Ireland
Post by: VivienneLA on Sunday 10 August 14 17:41 BST (UK)
Hi all

I have just started to put together my family tree, (Guy on my father's side, Shaw on my mother's).  I understand that Grandfather Shaw was born in England but left to marry my grandmother and live in Northern Ireland.  My paternal Grandmother's name was Maltman before she married, and my maternal Grandmother's name was Mullan. I have looked at the Belfast Burial records and found some information, but before joining an organisation which has ancestry records, I thought I would see if anyone knows either family and can give some pointers.   I would be grateful if anyone out there is related to or knew these families can give any information to help me?
Thank you.

There's a Samuel Guy (father James) who married Elizabeth Maltman (father Robert) in Belfast on 4 May 1912, are they related?

Edited to add: These are the couple in 1901 and 1911...

The PRONI wills index is another source worth looking at, for example, the following would seem to be related to the Maltmans in the posted census records:

Maltman, James Harper of 279 Ormeau Road Belfast garage proprietor died 27 September 1960 Probate Belfast 9 December to Belfast Bank Executor and Trustee Company Limited and Letitia Maud Maltman spinster. Effects £15198 12s. 1d.

Maltman Jane of 279 Ormeau Road Belfast married woman died 20 February 1940 Probate Belfast 16 May to Letitia Maud Maltman spinster. Effects £835 18s. 10d.

Maltman Robert Henry of 279 Ormeau Road Belfast retired posting master died 21 March 1949 Administration Belfast 21 November to James H. Maltman company director. Effects £68 18s. 9d.

Even if the folk posted above aren't yours, the wills index is still worth looking at for your relatives:

Dear Sinann and Gaffy
Thank you for your replies.  Yes, these people are related to me.  I will look at the links you suggest and see what other information I can glean.
Best regards
