Title: Hughes, Denbigh/Llanrhaeadr
Post by: dmjones on Sunday 10 August 14 13:23 BST (UK)
I’d appreciate hearing from anyone who has knowledge or can put me in touch with current members of this Hughes family:
Robert (1827 – c1903) and Ann (formerly Pierce, 1833 – 1914) Ann was living at Fron in the parish of Llanrhaeadr at the time of her demise (the only “Fron” I can find is near Prion?) she is buried at St Dyfnog’s Church, her brother was W. Clwyd Pierce. Her husband Robert is described as one of the best known residents of the parish and one of Denbigh’s oldest tradesmen (Butcher and Farmer).
Their children were: Thomas 1860, Hugh 1863, Elizabeth 1865, Madry 1866, Sarah 1868, Margaret 1871 and William 1873. Elizabeth became a Jones and her sons William and David lived at Mill Farm Llanrhaeadr.
Any information would be appreciated.

I believe the property may currently be listed as Fron Ystrad, postcode LL16 4NW.I located the couple in a census where the address is given as "Vron" adjacent to a listing for Gwern Neidr.
Wern Neidr is listed at the postcode above.Go to www.old-maps.co.uk and use the postcode as the search term.Choose Fron Ystrad, and after the map has loaded you can choose from the historical list(best to choose a 1:2500 scale). You will find it as plain "Fron" on these early maps.

If I have the correct property, this is it

I'm sure that's the place, Robert Hughes was a farmer and butcher so quite a suitable property. All I need now is for a member of the Hughes family to come forward, I have so much information which unfortunately is not relevant to my family trees.
Thanks again

I am at the moment researching for a friend, Robert Hughes, Fron was her husbands great great grandfather.  His daughter Elizabeth Anne was his great grandmother and her daugher Sarah Jane Jones his grandmother.  I have a photo of Sarah's grave which states she was born in "Ty Mawr Llanrhaeadr".

New to this RootsChat and no idea how to answer the message you sent!!

Sarah Jane Jones first of all married a Joseph Cadman even though I cannot find a marriage for them and had four children then married a Robert H. Williams - again I cannot find a marriage.  My friends mother in law Josephine June took the surname Williams and not Cadman.  I have found a baptism at Eglwys Llanengan for Audrey Cadman (my friends aunt) and they lived in a propery called Tanyfron with Joseph Cadman a Rabbit Catcher!! Both Sarah and Robert died in Pwllheli.

I'm awfully sorry, I didn't realise you were new to RootsChat. I think new members have to reach a certain number of posts before they can use personal messaging. I will send you another pm with my contact details because I have some useful documents to send you.
