Title: Sydney Joseph Harwood
Post by: Holly Heaton on Thursday 07 August 14 14:45 BST (UK)
I am looking for information on my great grandfathers military career during WW1.  He was born Sydney Joseph Harwood in June 1895, St. Saviour London.  I have been told that he survived the war, and I have been told that at the end of the war he was a stretcher bearer but other than that I do not know very much at all.  I'd love to know more about his regiment, ranking, where he was posted.

If anyone could help, i'd be very grateful.

Unfortunately, almost 70% of the WW1 Service Records were lost in a bombing raid in WW2?! ::)

However, a Medal Index Card survives:

Harwood, Sydney John
4/London Regiment, Private, Reg.No. 1538
                                    also: 280160

Victory Medal, British Medal and 1915 Star

Also Silver War Badge - given to those wounded, or no longer fit, to prove they weren't "cowards"!

Theatre of War: France
Entered War: 6th January 1915
