Hello,
I am seeking the baptism of WILLIAM CORBETT who was born in Belfast in 1771. William would have been of the protestant faith. He joined the Navy and served onboard HMS Dreadnought during the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805, he was then aged 34.
Can any one please help locate Williams birth or baptism record for me?
Keeping my fingers tightly crossed on this one!
Many thanks.
Linda

Hi Saz,
Many thanks for the look up. Unfortunately, it was disappointing news for me. William Corbett was definately born in Belfast. It is such a pity that many of the BDM records for Ireland have not survived. I just keep hitting brick walls and deadends with my search for my Corbett ancestors in Belfast. I am particularly seeking the birth or baptism of JAMES CORBETT in 1810. He is my 3 x great grandfather who states on the 1881 census of Ashton-Under-Lyne that he was born in Belfast. Any help would be appreciated.
Many thanks for your time and kindness in looking for William Corbett for me.

Hi Anthony,
Many thanks for the new info, it may come in use at some stage. I would be interested in any Corbett you may come across in Belfast c.1770 - 1818. The main family names are... Edward, Thomas, John, James, Joseph, William and Thomas-Henry Corbett. These names are used a lot in my family. All I would think would have been of the protestant faith.
If you come across any Corbett's in Belfast, please keep me in mind :)
Many thanks for your kindness and help Anthony.
Sincerely,
Linda
Hello Audrey,
Thank you very much for replying to my posting for Corbett's in Belfast. I have copied off the information you have supplied, but at the moment I have nothing to suggest that my Corbett family were in Belfast as late as the 1860's. My Corbett family appear to have relocated to Stockport, Manchester by 1819, three generations travelled together and settled, working in the cotton weaving trade. It is possible that a part of my Corbett family line remained in Belfast, but I have no evidence of this at the moment.
Many thanks for your help, it was most kind of you and is appreciated.
Sincerely,
Linda

Hello English Rose
I have just seen your postings about the name of Corbett. I am researching this name also. My great grandfather was James Corbett, born 1848 in Belfast City, son of John, a carpenter. James married a Margaret Nesbitt, dau. of Robert, a tailor, in Belfast in Feb. 1876, she was his second wife. They had 5 children, Ethel, Ida, Norah, Mary and James but Ida and James died at a young age.
One of the witness's names on James's marriage certificate was 'Magdlina' Corbett, who may have been his sister or mother, or some other Corbett relation.
James Corbett died in Belfast in 1913 aged 65. He had been a hairdresser by trade and was also known to have been a talented violinist.
I wondered if you had come across these Corbetts in your own research? I am trying
to find out if James Corbett had any siblings and am also searching for information on the family of his wife, Margaret Nesbitt.
Thanks for any help you may be able to give

Hi Chappers,
My family research suggests that my Corbett family line had relocated from Ireland (Belfast) to England c.1815. I have no lead regarding any other family members remaining in Ireland. I had a researcher search the Belfast Parish records for me, but nothing was found.
A possible link in Blaris, near Belfast was uncovered, but the lack of the baptism record for my James Corbett born 1810 left this line of research high and dry - I can't prove a connection to the Corbett family found in Blaris.
The parish records of Blaris were searched and a baptism of a Thomas Henry Corbett was recorded in 1811, mother, Eleanor Corbett.
My Eleanor Corbett did have a son named Thomas Henry Corbett, only he was born in Ireland in 1815.
I am sorry I am unable to help you, but I wish you well with your own search.
Linda.

Hello Linda
Thank you for replying to my query about the Corbett name - sorry to learn there is no direct link between our Corbetts. I'll keep searching. I hadn't heard of the place name Blaris before which I've seen is in Co. Down.
Thanks again, good luck with your own research
Carol
