Hello there !
Just a quick question to ask if any kind person can actually tell me what the coverage of the BMD Index is for the website ukcensusonline - I see that they seem to have the most comprehensive coverage for census records online so am thinking of taking out a subscription to search for some pesky ancestors who are avoiding detection using ancestry and findmypast.
While looking through the subscription options, I noticed they offer for an extra few quid, a BMD transcipted index - has anyone ordered this and can they say what it contains ?
If it is just a duplication of the BMD Index then it's not worth anything but it caught my eye when it said transcripts - will it contain mothers maiden name for Birth Registration in the 1800s for example or the father's name ?
Thanks

I have been researching UK ancestors for 6 years without ever visiting that site so I cannot help you with its coverage. Just had a quick look to see what it is. If you are considering subscribing to something it may be worthwhile considering a site that has more than just censuses. Among the ones I find useful are findmypast.co.uk, thegenealogist.co.uk and ancestry.co.uk.

I'm already a member of ancestry and findmypast , thanks anyway :)

I only want to know what this specific website : ukcensusonline , has to offer in terms of BMD Transcripts as they don't give any details really :)
-
Do you mean this site?
http://www.ukcensusonline.com/
I don't see where the BMD transcriptions are - or have I missed something :-\
It is unlikely that they would have anything other than a transcription of the BMD index, since the information contained on the certificates is only accessible by buying a certificate. Any site that offered the full information would be hailed by family historians - and I'd want to know know why I didn't know about it ;)

They are mentioned here http://www.ukcensusonline.com/transaction/products.php
and the 'coverage' here http://www.ukcensusonline.com/user/coverage.php?mini=1

But still only transcription of the index images. Almost caught me out there ;D

In other words, they are charging money for what you can see for free on many local council websites and also freebmd.org.uk ?

Hi
There looks to be a connection to https://www.thegenealogist.co.uk/ as the contact telephone number is the same.

Hi MBR1965!
Last year you asked this question... did you finally subscribed? What did you find out?
Thanks!
-
I didn't subscribe but I know that the transcripts are simply that - the exact same transcripts you get on all the free sites out there such as this one :-
http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl
In other words, they are trying to con you.

Thank you so much for the information! :)
