I have an old IGI print out for a marriage of the two people above on 1/1/1835 at St Lawrence,Appleby,Westmorland. It was submitted after 1991 by a member of the LDS Church.
Can anybody verify the marriage please and if Joseph was a widower.
Thank you

Submitted IGI entries are rarely accurate, quick check on familysearch draws a blank. When and where was their first child born, where were they born?

Joseph Rudd,I believe was married 17/12/1831 in Maryleborne,Middlesex to Jane Topping and had a child 8/9/1833 Edward Topping Rudd.
The next child from census returns is George Graham Rudd born 26/8/1835 in Appleby,
Following the logic of first child, ie mothers maiden name being the middle name and the document I have had several years from old version of family search I was wondering if :
a first wife died
b he married Jane Graham in 1835.
Equally the Jane in all censuses may be Jane Topping so I am trying to eliminate one Jane

so it looks like Jane on the census may be Jane Topping and they went to Appleby after marriage and eventually back to Middlesex? and Joseph was previously married pre 1831?

A birth certificate for one of the children would give the mother's maiden name.
I see that Reginald Rudd was registered in East Ward (which covers Appleby) in the September quarter of 1838. Reference is East Ward volume 25, page 397.

Dear Suz
You are correct with census info which I have and the marriage date to Jane Topping. The only thing I did not have was that he was a widower.
Perhaps the person who put that on IGI was aware he was a widow and perhaps they assumed that because two of the children corn in Appleby had a middle name called Graham he was previously married to a Graham.Or perhaps there is a Graham somewhere else in the line( maybe Jane Topping's mother ) as James born in Appleby had a middle name Bewsher which was Joseph's mothers's maiden name.
Thanks for help and info

sorry it was Joseph born in Appleby, not James.
Bumbleb, I am planning a visit to Kendal archives so I should be able to see mother's maiden name. Thanks for reminding me.

Hi
To make things deeper
from my database
Joseph & Jane
had the following in Appleby
George Graham 1835
Joseph Bewsher 1836
Reginald Graham 1838
BUT
Joseph & Jane had
George Graham 1727
Joseph Bewsher 1818
Reginald Graham 1732
so unles my fingers have betrayed me which is always a possible
it leave the name open
Joseph in 1835 was a Draper
but in 1836 there is a Joseph as a publican
Rudd is a very big name in the area
