On 1881 census James Crampton age 40 and wife Elizabeth age41 are living with their 8 children in Windsor St, St Mary Bishopshill Junior, Micklegate. I think there was another daughter born after 1880. Can anyone check please?
James was at 15, Gray Street in 1885.
Was he still in York in 1891? Do we know where?
Any help would be appreciated.

I know James was deceased by 1905 so he died between 1891 and 1905.
Would Elizabeth be with any of the children on 1901 census?

Too tired to look any more last night! Found your info this morning. Thank you so much.
Yes that's my James - I already have his birth certificate for 1840 so 60 in 1900 fits then. (early death - must have been hard work fitting all those railway engines).
Oh isn't it nice when the story fits! When they stay in one place too it helps!

Hi Tom,
Not quite sure what you're asking, but my James Crampton (engine fitter) was born in 1840 and his son Thomas was born in 1868 by which time they had moved to Bucks.
I don't have a Thomas Edward Crampton born in 1898 on my tree.
My Thomas was 23 in 1891 and working as a butcher in York and unmarried.
Any help?

OK It didn't hurt to try.
Is there any connection to Dick Turpin, Rumor has it that he's in the family tree but I don't know if it's the Crampton's or Swarbrick family.
