Title: Smyth
Post by: Tallestone on Monday 21 July 14 18:23 BST (UK)
My great great grandfather Samuel Smyth, born c1847; date of death unknown, married Mary Jane - surname not known but may be Horner or Wilkinson. They had 5 or 6 children - Elizabeth (Eliza) 29/3/1872, William John 1879, Alexander 2/7/1882, Joseph 4/9/1884, Robert 19/1/1886 and Samuel? D.O.B. unknown.

Can any one help with details of when and where this couple were born and married? In 1901 census they lived at Rashee, near Ballyclare, Co. Antrim.

Mary Jane is buried in Mallusk cemetery but I have no record of Samuel's burial place.

Thanks

Have only been able to find one marriage, Samuel Smyth married a Mary Jane Graham 27th Feb in Monaghan in 1867, my irish geography is not very good so do not know if this could be relevant to your search.

I wondered if you had got any further with this search?  I had a great grandfather Samuel Smyth who was born 1833.  He married a Martha Bolton and they had five children with similar names including Alexander, b 1883 who was my grandfather.  I believe Samuel's father was Robert b 1798.  They all lived around the Kilrea / Magherafelt areas.  I realise the dates are not the same but there are a lot of similarities I wondered if it could be the same.

Rashee, Co. Antrim isn't that close to Kilea/Magherafelt but Co. Monaghan is certainly quite far from both of those areas.

If you'd like help tracing your family, Lizzie, then start a new topic on the Derry/Londonderry board and we'll do our best to find information or suggest where you can search next.

Between GRONI online and the 'irishgenealogy' website I can see 7 children:

1. James Smith b. 8 November 1870:

2. William Smyth b. 20 March 1872:

3. John Smith b. 17 December 1873, GRONI online shows the birth registered in Kilrea and the  parents as Samuel Smith and Martha Bolton
4. Alexander Smith b. 28 May 1875:

5. Martha Anne Smyth b. 14 February 1877:
