Title: German death record from 1808
Post by: inor on Friday 18 July 14 16:22 BST (UK)
I would very much appreciate help in understanding the attached German death record from 1808.
Especially the last four sentences (beginning with "Sie war") are unclear to me.
Many thanks.

Hi inor,

that is difficult to read, so hope somebody comes by and can do better.

Sie war eine gebohrene Hofmaier (Hofmann)?  sie wird? (wart) am dritt(en) desselben Monats im Bysein ihres Schwagers Johann Nikolaus ........? beerdigt, der auch gegenwärtiger Protorat, mit mir dem Pfarrer unterschrieben hat.

Looks like she was married before.
I read Maria Anna's and Nikolaus' name as Drifter, but it says Diehlen in the margin.
Don't know what a Protorat is, perhaps a Proktor. Also see here: http://genwiki.genealogy.net/Prokurator

Hope this helps,  regards Peonie

hiya Inor - I see you are on line
re - Protorat ...it may mean Portrait ....any chance Nikolaus may have been an Artist or a Photographer ??
unterschrieben is "the only one " if I remember correctly ..

Hi garstonite,

This is the first time I've seen Nikolaus's name, so I don't know anything about him, but I doubt that he was an artist.
I'm pretty sure the word unterschrieben means "undersigned".

Thanks again.

Hi,

Sie war eine gebohren Hofmann. Sie wurde den dritten desselben monats im beyseyn ihrer Schwagers Johann Nikolaus Diehls beerdigt, der auch gegen wärtiges Prot... (?) mit mir dem Pfarrer unterschrieben hat.
I read Hofmann --- Johann
Johann Nikolaus Diehl, brother-in-law, undersigned this death certificate with the pastor.

Hi Augustine,

Thank you very much!  Have you any idea what the word beyseyn means?

Hi Augustine,

Thanks very much again.  I kept thinking that might be a place.  This makes much more sense now.

Appreciatively,
