Hello William

Thank you for your reply. You're a bit too recent for me , I'm afraid.

LAST joined my family when Susanna LAST married John JESSOP in 1785 in Mendlesham. I know nothing else about her.

Also, a Henry LAST witnessed my 4x Gt Grandparents' marriage in Charsfield in 1778. His connection to my family are unknown and I would love to know who he is, he may be able to help me trace my 4x Gt Grandfather's origins.

Similarly with the STEVENS surname. The above Susanna's mother-in-law was Catherine STEVENS who married William JESSUP in 1752 in Hadleigh.  I have no information on Catherine's ancestry although, looking at her children's names, I wouldn't be surprised if her mother was named Mary or Elizabeth.

Sorry I can't help you but maybe we'll be in touch later when more of our families are discovered and a connection found.

Regards

Brenda

Hello Brenda, I am also interested in the WRIGHT family of Clopton.  I wonder if we have been looking at the same family?

I have Sarah Ann Wright 1842-1886 (b. Clopton Suffolk), daughter of John Wright and Lucy Durrant.

In the 1851 census John Wright was 48, Lucy Wright 46, and children William 25, Epharim 19, Hannah 16, Ezra 14, Mary Ann 11, Sarah 9 and Ellen 3.

Do these people ring any bells for you?

I look forward to hearing from you and possibly sharing some info.

Best wishes,
Anne

Hello Anne

I'm afraid none of your names do ring bells but we must be connected somewhere surely?

My Great Grandmother was Susan Wright. She was a Baptist so I have no birth/bpatism date for her but she was born about 1848 in Clopton. Her parents were William & Susan Wright whose marriage I cannot trace so if you can help me I would be very grateful.

William was baptised in 1811 in Debach, son of William & Hannah Wright. Again I cannot find their marriage nor any other children for them so maybe we connect in this generation.

Susan had 5 siblings as far as I'm aware from census returns, all born in Clopton: Mary Ann b.c1857, William b.c1842, David b. 1845, Jonathan b.c1849 and James b.c1860.

Can you help me in any way?

Best Wishes

Brenda

Hi Brenda, I do not know too much about the Wright family, but what little I do know, may tie in with your family.

Sarah Ann Wright's father (John Wright) was born in Charsfield in 1803.  His parents were William Wright and Hannah Tye, married in Clopton on 13/10/1801.

William Wright born Clopton ~ 1776
Hannah Tye born Clopton ~ 1780

Would this be the same William and Hannah, parents of your William baptised in 1811?

I will gladly check this further at the RO, and look for other children of William and Hannah, and also the marriage of William and Susan in Clopton.  However, with it now being the summer holidays, and the children off school, I may not get chance to check this out in the very near future.  It may therefore be September before I have chance to visit the RO.

I would love to know your thoughts on this, and will be in touch when I know more.

Best wishes for now,
Anne

Hello Di

You're in the right part of the world, mine was married & buried in Rattlesden, but my Sarah BORLEY, 4x Gt Grandmother, was born about 1731; a bit too early for you, I should imagine. I have no idea where she was born so know of no brothers who could be your ancestors.

I have another: Alice or Ellis BAULEY (I'm sure it's just another way of spelling the same surname) but she was born about 1730 too. She also married in Rattlesden.

May I ask you to remember me when you've progressed a few more generations? I'm sure we will link up somewhere so maybe we can hunt together in the 1600s at a later date.

Regards

Brenda

Sure will Brenda, I am slowly getting back there.

Oswald Borley was born 1874 Crowfield, his father Edward Borley 1845 Pettaugh, his father also Edward Borley 1812 Pettaugh and would you believe his father another Edward Borley c.1787.

Let me know if you come across them!

Brenda or Anne...
I was wondering if you could help me? I also have some WRIGHT ancestors from Suffolk (although mostly from Sudbury I think).
Apparently there was a John Wright born ~1838 (so a bit later than the John Wright you discuss, but potentially a relative?), first wife Hannah Richardson and 2nd Esther Jarves. He had a sister called Jane Wright, and had 8 children all up:
Susan Martha Wright, born ~1868 in Stambourne, Suffolk. Married Lenton Coote Green.
Polly Wright
3rd child died at birth with mother
Frank Edward Wright
Arthur Wright, who married Florence Theobald
Florence Wright
Frederick Wright
Albert Olanda Wright, who married Elizabeth Southgate

I know it's a long-shot, but does this family happen to match up at all with any of your Wright's? Would be greatly interested, as is an area of my family tree that appears to be lacking!

Hello

I do have a John Wright born on 12 Jan 1837, bap 25 Jun 1837 in Clopton, son of James Wright & Mary Cracknell. However I do not know what became of him, he is only a twig on my tree. Somehow I doubt he's yours because the children's forenames do not match at all. My John's siblings were Hannah, George, William, Emma, Aaron, Clara, Alfred and Ann.

Hi Brenda
I have been doing some more research and have found this.
Eliza King born Rattlesden in 1813, father George King, married into my rice tree in 1841, married James Rice. and the family must have lived in Rattlesden as this is where Eliza died in 1878.
I have both her marriage cert and her death cert if you need any more info.
Thanks.
William James.

Hello William

I don't have this Eliza King in my records. Is she the daughter of George King & Sarah Stribling who married in Preston St Mary?

Hi Brenda

I think James Wright (born 1860) married Elizabeth Wright. They had children Ellen, William, May, Walter and Annie. They lived in Clopton in 1911. I'm interested in Annie (born 1898) who is listed at a mothers help on the 1911 census. She may be my grandmother.

Does this ring any bells?

Nicola

Hello Nicola

I'm afraid I know nothing about my James Wright other than he was born about 1860 in Clopton and was a Carpenter. He is my Gt Grandmother's brother and son of William W. and Susan Olden (or Holden).

I find the Wright surname almost impossible to research, there are so many of them in Suffolk.

Sorry I can't help.

Regards

Welcome to Rootschat Louise, I'm just down the road in Fram  ;)

There were also Wright family in Fram, esp Fiddler Wright who ran a pianoforte establishment in the mid 1800s in Well Close Square
