Good Evening,
Can anybody shed any light on the above. Father was Edwin George Lewis born 16 September 1863 in Poplar, mother Rosa Caroline Gibbs, born 23 June 1867. They also has Lily and Edwin Alfred, my grand father.
I am trying to widen my knowledge without the help, currently of BMD and Ancestry.
Thanks,
Colin

I can see that Caroline remarries and that Edwin is with her on the 1901, but no George or Lily ???
Needs a bit more research :)

I had the same problem when I had better access but pursued other members of the family at that time. If you can fid anything that would be so appreciated.

What is known of Lily?
-
I do not have any details of George H except he was born in 1887? Lily I believe she was married to a John Norfolk in 1915 and died in 1973 bur I cannot vouch for the correctness of this information. Sorry to be so vague

The 1915 marriage is indexed on FreeBMD. John H Norfolk to Lily E Lewis, West Ham.

Added - Colin - ignore this post, see avm228 post for correct details for Lily -

Hmmm... I think in 1901 Lily is actually with her Gibbs grandparents in Canning Town as Lilly E Lewis, 10 b Custom House, Essex.

Yes that looks the correct one for Lily :) So it's back to the drawing board as to where George is........

Given Lily's birthplace of Custom House, this George looks interesting:

...and he had a son named George Edwin - after his father?

Glad you've posted that as I was looking at that one but was a bit unsure. I've not found him on the 1901 but he does reappear.

I want to go though all this tomorrow but at this stage I cannot see where George Llewellyn fits in, and his son George Edwin
George H married Louisa Ann Ashby 1909 in West Ham their daughter was born 1910 but shows on the 1911 census as staying with Alfred and Emma Gibbs.
George sister Lily Elizabeth married John Norfolk in 1915,

The idea is that George Llewellyn Lewis birth reg Mar qtr 1888 West Ham may be the same person as the George H Lewis you found aged 3 in 1891.
There is no birth for a suitable George H Lewis, and George Llewellyn Lewis is a good fit in terms of age and birthplace (Custom House, same as for his presumed sister Lily Elizabeth who later married John Norfolk, according to her 1901 census entry with the Gibbs grandparents when she was 10 b Custom House).
Moreover, George Llewellyn Lewis and his wife Louisa Ann nee Ashby named a son George Edwin (1913) and a daughter Lily Elizabeth (1910) - familiar given names in your Lewis family.
Obviously it would mean that the middle initial was wrong in the 1891 census, but we already know that the middle initial for his father Edwin was also wrong (J rather than G for George).
