Title: Isaac Whitehouse where were you?
Post by: Trees on Friday 11 July 14 09:01 BST (UK)
I know Isaac whitehouse married in St peter & Paul Aston on 1st 1841 his bride was Maria READ she was actually Maria REA
I have them in 1841 in the same household of the Cheadles who witnessed their marriage
HO107 piece 1143 bk 3 fo45 p14
I then find them in 1871 RG10/3107 fo 88 p29

but that's it where was he in 1851,1861 and 1881?
His wife is on the 1901census still with the Ann REA who appears on the 1871 with them
I am having a problem with that Ann ( I don;t think she is married to William REA but do think she is nee Whitehouse and Isaac's sister. William REA was Isaac's wife;s brother and married to Sarah nee Tranter. Isaac and Maria witnessed his marriage.Sarah is on the 1871 census with the rest of her children.
So it would be very usefull to find these missing censuses if only to see if Ann is in the household in 1881 or before 1871
I hope someone can show me what I am doing wrong not to be able to find them
Trees ???

There is an Isaac Whitehouse with Maria Whitehouse shown on the 1881 census living at 4 Lamberts End West Bromwich, Isaac is shown as a Brickyard Labourer. They are the only two in the household is this the correct person ?

Found it
Still don't think so though
I think he was from Birmingham father Thomas mother Elizabeth  and she was born Birmingham father William but oddly she says she is from Cheshire in 1901 that is very odd  ???
Isaac was a brass founder when he married father a whitesmith and in 1871 he was a forger

It is looking more and more like William has left Sarah and partnered up with Isaac's little sister ouch
Next where was Maria in 1891 That gives a full house

Isaac is married to Maria Rea they witness the marriage of her brother Williama nd Sarah Tranter then Wiilliam appears to be married to Isaac's sister Ann and living with Isaac and Maria
Ann and Maria are still together both widows in 1901
Why did he take son William with him and abandon the other five children? well four as one was already married

oo yes there was a Griffin on an earlier census wasn't there so where was Ann then now that's worth a hunt isn't it
I am very grateful for all your help rolnora many thanks this is helping a great deal
There is a strong connection to Sutton Coldfield with the siblings sister Elizabeth Ray was baptised in Erdington in 1831 but of Sutton Coldfield
Oddly Elizabeth seems to be baptised twice once in Erdington in 5 Sep 1830 and again in St Philips  26 Dec 1831 Birmingham with Maria (Mrs Isaac Whitehouse ) and Frederick. Elizabeth is the youngest
Elizabeth's father was William a brickmaker on both baptisms and mother Susanna but in St Philips the address was Cross Street and in Erdington it was Sutton Coldfield I think they have moved back to Sutton Coldfield their father's birth town shortly after Elizabeth was born but what is really strange is the joint baptism is after the one in Erdington and the next child was baptised in Erdington 7 jun 1833

Oh look they were in Erdington I wonder if that was what Maria was trying to say on that 1901 census when she seems to be from Edgerston Cheshire
Do you think that is likely?

Ok Ann REA REAY RAY born birmingham 1836 WHERE WERE YOU hiding in 1891???
We have her nicely on the 1871 a, 1881 and 1901 censuses but not the 1891 i've tried all the variations I can think of on both An..ry and FindMyPast There are several possible deaths for her spous William and in 1881 she was with him but a widow in 1901 If they are together in 1991 it will slim down the  hunt for him

Hi Trees,
I've been having a look round this morning and I don't think that the Ann Rae living with William is Isaac's sister. I think she could be Ann Griffin, who on the 1861 census is married to John Griffin and they have a son William Griffin b 1859 boarding with William Rae and his family.
  RG 9; Piece: 2152; Folio: 63; Page: 30

I can't find the Griffin family on the 1881 census but I haven't had time to look any further than that yet.
I found a birth record on FreeBMD for a William Griffin in 1858 but can't see anything for a William Rae.

The county given for Maria as Ches on the 1901 census could have been a mistake on the part of the enumerator and I'm now wondering if Ann Griffin's age could also be a mistake because if this is the same person it's way out. ???
What do you think?

Could be this is the same Ann Griffin on the 1891 census living with Maria?
Her age is 50 on that census as well  ???
She can't have married William Rae so if this is the same person did she revert to her married name when he died?

I think I'm wrong. :(
Ann is hardly likely to use the name Griffin on the 1891 census and Rae on the others plus her age is to far out to be feasible.
It's back to the drawing board  ::)

Umm yes I looked at the Ann Griffin in 1891 but in 1901 its Ann REAY with Maria then Ann was 67
but if it is Ann Griffin who is partner to William I don't think he is married to her I need to look at the son William again. William and Sarah had a William in 1856 so he fits the one with William and Ann and is absent from both the 1871 and 1881 for Sarah so I think he is the one with William
So I need to check who Ann Griffin was and look at her age
OOps sorry you have answered that one.So we are back with Ann Whitehouse do you agree

I now have the registrations and baptisms of all William and Sarah's children the only odd thing is the youngest one John Amsley reg Q1 1870 bapt Sep 1871 as John Hemsley
twi things the second name sounds like a surname and its after the 1871 census when William is with the Whitehouses would she have baptised him late in the absence of William ( he is lon the baptism as a striker just as on the other baptisms. So was john by a different father really with the surname Helsley is this why William has left? Umm
Was Ann using REA as she was with William or was she already a Rea when he went to the Whitehouse home in 1871 is that where they met

Trees,

I don't know what to think at the minute about Ann ???
What makes you think she's a Whitehouse and a sibling of Isaac?
Have you tried to trace that side of this family?
Title: Re: Isaac Whitehouse where were you?

I think Isaac is the one baptised to Thomas and Elizabeth5 Se 1822 born 27 jun 1817St Philips. a nailer And Ann baptised to thomas and Eklizabeth inSt Martins born 29 Oct  1836 bapt 19 Dec 1836 to Thoams and Elizabeth a brazier
When Isaac married father was Thomas a whitesmith
So the occupation is different I'll look for Thomas on censuses
I was thrown towards this Ann by the entry in 1871 which calls her sibut now its open mind timester to Isaac the head I already had Isaac married to Maria Rea and witnessing her siblings' marriages

Now have Thomas and Elizabeth Whitehouse with children incl Ann on both 1841 and 1851 census and baptisms for the oldest shown in the census all are fore= Thomas a brazier
The oldest Edward born 30 Sep 1825 Thomas was born 1806 so too young to be isaac's dad so it looks like the Ann Rea with William isnot Isaac's sister
isaac was born 1817
