Help wanted. Gores Directory for Liverpool (1911) shows my ancestor William Henry COWLEY, a postman, living at 64 Leven Street, Kirkdale. He was known to be living at 58 Leven Street in 1919.
Any listing from later directories would be greatly appreciated.

Dear Pegasuss,
Thank you for your helpful reply. I think that Elizabeth died sometime during the period 1919 to 1925 but I have been unable to find any record.
I have to say that I am fairly new to RootsChat and your prompt response is greatly appreciated.

possibly Elizabeth in the 1911 census is his 2nd wife ??...William Henry states aged 42 - so this marriage of William Henry Cowley a Postman - is probably your William
Marriage: 19 Jun 1891 St Peter, Everton, Lancashire, England
William Henry Cowley - 22, Postman, Bachelor, 78 Stanfield Rd.
Constance Emily Wilcock - 20, Spinster, 8 Iden St. Boundary Place
Groom's Father: Robert Cowley, Shipwright
Bride's Father: James Wilcock, Clerk
Witness: Samuel Shaw; Fanny Cartner
what do you think ??
www.freebmd.org.uk
mar qtr 1903 death Constance Emily Cowley aged 32 ...West Derby Liverpool
the only marriage I can find between 1903 and 1914 is
William Henry Cowley to Elizabeth Hughes - june qtr 1904 Walsall 6b 1193 ....
maybe someone can find that marriage and see if the father of William was Robert Cowley a Shipwright

Dear Garstonite,
Thank you for your reply. William's first wife Constance Emily Cowley nee Wilcock died in 1903. He married Elizabeth Hughes in Aldridge, Staffordshire in 1904 (Walsall 6b 1193 Jun 1904).
I have been unable to find out anything about William's death and I was hoping that the Liverpool Directories would provide a clue to his address after 1925. At that time he was known to be living at 58 Leven Street, Kirkdale.
His eldest son William Frank Cowley emigrated to Canada circa 1919. It is possible that William may have joined his son sometime later.
Again, may I say thank you for your assistance.

Probably no connection ...but I worked with this man who was The Lord Mayor of Liverpool ...he was an Accountant by occupation....a really nice man ...Dave Cowley ...he was the Treasurer of Young Persons Housing Association in Liverpool.
maybe if you can work backwards with Dave Cowley you might find a connection to William Henry Cowley ??

Hi Dunelm,
Knew I was coming to Liverpool again this weekend to do more family research using Gores microfilm, so took your details to see I could help more.
Searched Gores 1923 to 1931 each year and found your William Henry Cowley, Postman at 58 Leven Street Kirkdale off Westminster Road ( My Mum was just staring school in 1930 at Westminster Rd School- small world eh)
On the 1930 Gores index William is shown still at 58 Leven St but NO Profession shown on Street Index listing or his Surname listing.
On 1931 Gores a Frank Spiers - a Ships Steward is shown at 58 Leven St and there is NO listing Alphabeticaly for William Henry COWLEY in Liverpool
only a William Cowley - Confectioner at 99 Peel Rd Bootle
so unless he changed profession - assume he emigrated 1930
as the 1930 & 1931 Death Indexes show on 1930 March quarter one W H Cowley aged 75 died in Nottingham and two William Cowley's both aged 46 dying in Liverpool one in June quarter one in Sept - none in 1931
Neighbour at No. 64 Duncan Metcalf - Marine Engineer shown living at No. 64- 1923 to 1931 inclusive.
Have taken screen prints on the indexes 1923 to 1931 if you want them scanned and emailed,
send me your details privately.
Hope this helps.

Dear Alamo,
Thank you very much indeed for taking the time and trouble to check Gore's Liverpool Directories for any reference to my Great Grandfather - William Henry Cowley. This is a wonderful forum and it owes a lot to people like yourself who are prepared to go that extra mile to help others.
Both of William's sons emigrated. One went to Canada and the other to America. It is very possible that he followed suit but nothing has been found in the passenger lists.
On the other hand he may have left the Liverpool area. There is a corresponding death in Gloucester City in 1945.
Once again thank you for your help. Copies of the screen prints would be greatly appreciated when you have a moment. I will send you a PM with my details
kind regards
