If anyone is going to the archives or South Shields Library (I 'think' the library may have these records) and has some of that rare commodity 'spare time', I'd appreciate some info about three baptisms.
I want to order copies of these if they exist. They may not exist, or at least not in this church, but it was the nearest church to where they lived and also the church where the parents were married so at the moment its my best bet. To order copies without paying a 'research' fee I need to know the dates.
3 children of Ro[w]land Weldon and his wife Winifred (nee Huggitt)
1 Roland Walker Weldon, d.o.b. 26th April 1918
2 Norman Weldon, birth registered Q1 1921
3 Jean Marie Weldon d.o.b. 2nd July 1922
Its a big ask to look for all three, I know, but its mainly Jean Marie I am interested in, the others would be a bonus but they aren't as important just now.

I hadn't heard of St. Oswin's in S/Shields until reading yr message. A most unusual name!
Out of curiousity, you say the Church is near "where they lived". Can I ask where they lived?
-
Of course you can ask :-)
They lived in Collingwood Street.
This tells a little about St Oswin http://www.rcdhn.org.uk/about_the_diocese/saints/oswin.php
and this is a photo of the original church http://www.rootschat.com/links/01891/

Many thanks for that! I'm ex S/Shields and had never heard of that Church. But Collingwood Street is in the Stanhope Road area. I do know that.
You live and learn, eh!
-
Yes, I usually learn something new each day from reading the posts in here.
The only trouble is, I think old knowledge is starting to drop out of my brain to make way for the new stuff!
:-)

Hello again Boo
Do you know for sure that South Shields Library has the P.Registers for St. Oswins S/Shields?
-
I don't know for sure (about anything much!) I haven't ever been to the library in South Shields. My rare visits to the area consist of straight to TWAS, head down and don't breathe till its time to get the train back to Derbyshire. I only manage to make it once a year and this year don't think I'll manage it at all.
but this page http://www.southtyneside.info/article/8866/parish-registers suggests South Shields Library do have them.
and Tyne and Wear Archives definitely have them.

Thanks Boo.
Now I am going up to S/Shields next weekend for my regular monthly visit. Only a couple of days this time but if I can fit it in (no guarantee mind you!) I will pop into the Library and see if I can do your look-ups for you.
That is if you want me to?
-
That's a really kind offer and it would be great, but only if you have time.
Please don't go to too much trouble, I may be able to make it to the North East next year :-)
I so wish there was a name index online, that way I'd know if they were baptised there and be able to just order copies of the entries.
Unfortunately the budget just doesn't run to also paying 'research' fees. I am not saying that the archives overcharge, research 'can' be time consuming, just that its outside my budget.

Send me a list of what you want from those Registers Boo. I think it's possible to send via a personal message? Whichever you think best.
-
Just in case anyone thinks I am 'very' rude and haven't replied to Rhododendron. we have continued this via PM.
I just looked at the thread and if I don't know me, I'd think I was really rude not to reply :-)

Thanks Boo.

thank you so much mtoto, that was really kind of you to look for me and its very much appreciated.
Winifred and Roland were at number 57 in 1917 when they married, then by the time of Jean Marie's birth they were at number 65 so that all looks about right.
May I check if the dates for the boys are birth or baptism?
Once I establish that I can order the copies :-)
