Anyone with information on Annie Dowling born 1866 possibly in Sandhurst, Bendigo. Her father was
William Dowling (Dooling) and her mother Ann Burke. She had 3 brothers - William, Patrick & James,
and 1 sister Catherine. Last known as being in the Fitzroy or Auburn area. Thanks.

Hi ROSIE 17,
thanks for that info. I already have all that, but can you tell me where you got the info that John was born Castlemaine in 1856? Can't find the birth being registered. Jeddah.

HI CANDO,
Annie lived in the Auburn/Fitzroy area in 1894. As far as I can tell she never married,
or at least I can't find any record of such. Jeddah.

Nothing on my Victorian birth index CD for a John D**LING with father William and mother A* B* in 1856 at Castlemaine.
There is a John DOWLING marrying in 1856 :-\
Rosie 17 It is helpful if all the births are transcribed with the registration numbers so they can be recorded or checked by others.
Jeddah which surname spelling was Annie using in 1894?
What is your source for this information?
When and where did her parents die?
Is she mentioned on her parents' death certificates?
Cheers :)

Bendigo Advertiser 10 May 1873
NOTICE.—We, the undersigned, beg to inform the public that we are Not Related to the woman Filburn or her Daughter in any way.
WILLIAM DOOLING. ANN DOOLING.
The Australasian Sat 7 Oct 1877
City Court
A labouring man, named William Dooling, was brought the City Bench on Wednesday, on the charge of wilfully and maliciously damaging property belonging to William and Kate Dooling, his son and daughter. The complainants gave evidence to the effect that the prisoner had been in the habit of ill-treating and starving their mother, whom they therefore kept and supported in a house they bad rented in Rathdowne-street, Carlton. Occasionally, the prisoner came and endeavoured to take their mother away, and when prevented from doing so, he generally created a disturbance. Last Tuesday night he went to the house in the son's absence, and on receiving an emphatic refusal to go with him from his wife, he deliberately emptied a phial of sulphuric add upon a book belonging to his daughter, and upon £10 worth of clothing, property of his son.
The Bench ordered him to find one surety in £10 to keep the peace for six months..

Hi Cando,
newspapers articles do indeed refer to my lot. I already have loads of them. The name started out as Dooling, became Doolan (for most of their time in Bendigo), and then became Dowling once they had settled in Melbourne. I picked up Annie (born 1866) from an article in a Melbourne newspaper, and she is definitely the daughter of William & Ann Dooling/Doolan/Dowling. She is quoted as being Annie Dowling. I have her mother's death cert, but as she died in a hospital, the informant was the hall porter, and therefore didn't know any family particulars. Am awaiting the father's death cert. It's all a bit confusing. Jeddah.

I remember this from one of your previous posts (I think) - it was a fib because Mary FILBURN was Ann BURKE's sister. ;D
jeddah, can you find and link the newspaper article where Annie is mentioned?
Debra :)

Hi Debra,
Annie Dowling is mentioned in articles published from 15-2-1888 through to 27-2-1888. In the "Independent (Footscray) 25-2-1888, William Dowling stated Annie was his daughter, and James was her brother. Jeddah.

Hi Jeddah should have mentioned a tree on ancestry had the John Dooling born 26/4/1856 Castlemaine Australia to the same parents ...they have the rest of the family but no Annie ? ..Who was she living with in 1884 in Fitzroy ?

Am awaiting the father's death cert.
You can purchase Victorian certificates online and download immediately.

You mention Annie DOWLING in Auburn. Have you taken this from a newspaper item? There is an Annie DOWLING living with other DOWLING's on the electoral roll in Hawthorn and none of them appear to be your family.
Perhaps bear in mind that ages mentioned in newspaper reports are not always accurate.
Cheers

Hi Rosie 17,
you mention a tree on Ancestry. This is probably my own family tree. As far as I know, I am the only one who has managed to track the Dooling/Doolan/Dowling family this far. Only managed to find another daughter (Annie) just recently. Always knew there was another girl in the family, but couldn't find her until now. Thanks for your help though. Jeddah.
(My tree on Ancestry is "Norris".)

Cando,
thanks for that - shall check it out. Jeddah.
