No start date given just "this summer".

Ooh Twiggy (she is lovely)

Ooh Martin Shaw (just 'cos he is gorgeous!)
Ooh Sheridan Smith (she has come a long way over the last few years)
Ooh Julie Water (really like her)
Ooh Reggie Yates (he is sweet)
Not to sure about Tamzin Outhwaite - do not really see a lot about her do we, looking forward to the autumn and new series of New Tricks)
Mary Berry - reserve judgement until I have seen it
Brian Blessed - Blimey - hope he does not over react all the time and just bellow when he finds out his ancestors were 'in the workhouse etc.' May have to watch this one through my fingers and fast forward when he starts annoying me!!!!
All in all, not a bad line up
-
Julie Walters comes from Irish parents,so we know what that episode will be about ;)
Love the sound of all of them.......reserving judgement on loud Brian Blessed at the present time LOL
-
I have to ask who is Reggie Yates? :-[

-
Mrs Brown's Boys rings a bell but never seen it and not heard of those books either sorry Brendan!
Don't like Tamzin but often the people you don't like as "actors" you end up liking. Jason Donovan in particular for me he seemed so genuinely interested in everything.
-
Over the years there have been several that I thought - I do not fancy that one, but they have often ended up being the ones that I have found the most interesting and sometimes emotional.
Still love the Bill Oddie and Amanda Redmond ones. Both these can still make me shed a tear.
But a favourite of mine was the guy who plays Watson/Bilbo Baggins (for the life of me his name has escaped me!). Because of the syphillis information. Had an ancestor who died of tertiary syphillis, a truly nasty disease. He was one of my g/grans uncles by marriage. Martin ??
Ones that I found truly boring was Esther Rantzen for some reason and Laurence Llywellyn Bowen, oh and David Suchet.
:)
-
Looking forward to the new series. Some very interesting characters there. Love Julie Walters so hope hers is a cracker.
There are very few that I am disappointed in - and recently that has been due to concentrating on only one or two ancestors, which can be OK, but I prefer it when they spread the research a little further. Two that come to mind as being pretty poor were John Hurt and Carol Vordermans. :P

Martin Freeman. He has been in loads of things, including Sherlock, Love Actually, The Office (with Ricky Gervaise) etc etc.
Agree, that was a good episode. :)

Both of those are being repeated at the moment, certainly the Amanda one is on my planner.
I like the Jeremy Paxman one as he sheds a tear and it was totally not the reaction he was expecting.
My absolute favourite episode of all is Kim Cattrell.
-
Have often wondered how many celebs the researchers have to look at before they find one whose family is interesting enough for a TV program.
Also, how many hours of research and how much expense in order to get the information used to create the program.
Love the series, really looking forward to the next one.
-
I'm just pleased there is a new series to look forward too! I'm sure there will some very interesting things in that line up. Now what's the betting it will be on when it's my choir practice night and I'll have to record it :)

I always record it anyway, you can bet I miss a bit when my husband is snoring very loudly otherwise ;D
-
Hi,
My thanks for the heads up regarding the new series, I had been wondering when that was going to be on & who would be on it!
I think they could all be interesting, but we shall see! Certainly an interesting mix of Celebs this time! ;D
Must admit that I didn't know who Brendan O'Carroll was & wasn't quite sure who Reggie Yates was either! Glad I wasn't the only one! ;D
I look forward to seeing them.
Kind regards
David

Looking forward to new series. Lots of interesting people. I usually find very few I know although enjoy following their stories.
As far as Mrs Brown goes. I'm really looking forward to it. Have watched many of the live shows in the Pavilion theatre Glasgow. The first one I wasn't keen to go-didn't think it was "my Scene"!
How wrong I was!! Never laughed so much. A great night out The crude language/content, mentioned in above review, blends in and is not the least offensive. Terrific audience participation and the deliberate going off script by Mrs Brown to confuse the cast was brilliant. All part of the fun. The TV version kept that up to a certain extent-not sure how the film will work though.

Just wish I could see it here without waiting for a couple of years. On the positive side a new series of the Norwegian version started here tonight. It is called "Hvem tror du at du er?" It is actually quite good. I have now watched UK, US, Norwegian, Swedish and Danish versions. The least professional is the US version which covers very little ground in the programme compared with the others and where the standard reaction of the individual concerned seems to be "Wow" rather than a response that relates to the findings.
-
The Australian version is just about to start here. Usually I don't get to watch it because my husband isn't that interested.
This time, HE said we'll have to watch the series. When I checked out the line up of celebs, I understood because this series is FULL of his favourite actors/tv celebs.
Probably most of you outside Australia may not know them but the ones I'm looking forward to are:
Jackie Weaver, Andrew Denton, Richard Roxburgh, Paul McDermott - it's just great!
Can't wait!

Oooh goody!!! I didn't know about this. Do you know the start date hsfam? SBS?
The Australian version is on a par with the UK one, probably because they use the same format (I even like the gum tree in the intro which replaces the UK oak ()) and music (which the addition of the didg) - all clever touches I think .... unlike the American version which messes with it beyond recognition and recaps ad nauseum as is their wont. ::)
-
Hi Ruskie,
Sorry I didn't get back to you earlier. I posted the message just before I went to work!
The first episode is Andrew Denton and it apparently airs: 7:30pm Tuesday 8 July on SBS ONE
But keep an eye out in case I got that wrong.
Yeah! ;D
-
It would be interesting for us in the UK to see the Australian version of WDYTYA after it has aired in Aus. As was commented on on another thread, we don't seem to get much tv from Aus, whereas you get some from here. I wonder if it will ever happen?
-
My other favourite programme is 'Long Lost Family'. New series starts on 14th July 2014.
Annette
-
That's good news Annette. Thanks for posting that- it's one of my favourites too.
Looking forward to it

No worries hsfam. ;)
And thanks a lot. I will double check and write it on my calendar, or I will forget. Sounds like it might clash with Masterchef. Will have to miss Masterchef I think. :)
-
I'd like to see the Aussie version too. I wonder if it will be aired in the UK. Even if you don't know the celebrities, I always find it very interesting
I like Long Lost Family too!

They are definitely more interesting that the US version that the BBC seems to think we only want to see. ::) I've ended up purchasing copies on DVD direct from Australia but since our delightful government reduced further the amount you can purchase without import duties, they are now off limits because they will always work out over £15 (used to be £18). When you add £8 import duty and Royal Mail's fee, it's a bit too expensive on top of the postage costs. :-\ They are though available to purchase through SBS's website as iTunes downloads, but haven't tried it.
Just hoping one of these days the BBC will actually see reason. ;)
I know a RCer the other year suggested I download them to view from a streaming site, but you never know what added things may download with them that way. :-X

As I said, apparently you can view them (or download them) on some websites, but depends whether you want to take any risk.

They are in parts, some, like the Jason Donovan one are all there, just being able to find those that are there.

These new episodes won't appear on You Tube for a while they don't seem to allow them straight away. They'll probably be allowed in 6-12 months time. Different You Tube users have different rights when it comes to programme length so some can put the whole episode up in one video. Other users have to split the episode into parts. The full UK shows are just under an hour if they come from the BBC broadcast. They are about 45 minutes in length if they come from satellite channel broadcasts because the need for advert breaks mean that some bits are edited out.

I'd forgotten that us non sports lovers have got to have our normal channels shoved sidewards again for yet more sport 8)

We get the new WDYTYA series from the states starting here in Canada on July 23rd. Can't wait to see it. Some times I can find the UK ones on you tube but come not find last years series.
Cheers

Hi,
Looks like the first one is going to be Julie Walters and will be on next week (28th Jul - 4th Aug) possibly on Friday 4th Aug itself, but not certain.
The order of the shows would appear to be:
1 Julie Walters
2 Brian Blessed
3 Tamzin Outhwaite
4 Brendan O'Carroll
5 Sheridan Smith
6 Mary Berry
7 Martin Shaw
8 Reggie Yates
9 Twiggy
10 Billy Connolly
Billy Connolly's will be the 100th show & there will be a one hour special also being broadcast, looking back over the 100 episodes.
Kind regards
David

Sounds great. I'm jealous. Might get to see one or two episodes on my summer hols then will have to wait a year to get the rest.

4th August is actually a Monday.;) It's not showing for next Monday the 28th according to Virgin Media's TV Guide and the cheap guide my parent's buy, so I suspect it will be the following Monday no doubt clashing with Long Lost Family.
-
Hi,
Ooooops, your absolutely right smudwhisk the 4th August is a Monday! When I looked at me calendar on my computer to see when the 4th was I looked at July instead of August! :-[ :-X ;D
Ok, so therefore the 1st episode (Julie Walters) looks to be on at some point in the week commencing Monday 4th August.
Kind regards
David

Fantastic! I dont always know who the people are, but very interesting.
I would love to have WDYTYA help me with some brick walls!
-
The hour long special of WDYTYA celebrating 10 years, 100 shows, is on Wednesday 6th August at 10.35pm BBC1.
The next day - Thursday 7th August - is the first programme in the new series featuring Julie Walters at 9pm BBC1.

Yes I see Wikipedia have now updated their listing. ;D At the time I posted it seemed to be the only source on the start date. Just glad it's not on a Monday so clashing with Long Lost Family.
-
Yes, I'm glad they don't clash too. (I actually got the details off BBC1's own site).

I think they've probably only just appeared on the BBC's website because when I looked last week they still weren't listed.
-
You are probably right, smudwhisk! Only decided to look today as I know next weeks TV Guides are available in shops on Tuesdays and figured they must be on the site now.
Really looking forward to seeing Julie Walters and hope her ancestry is as interesting as she herself is.

Really excited! WDYTYA Australia episode with Richard Roxburgh is about to start in 15 mins!!! ;D
Lovely way to spend a cold winter's evening. ;) :D

Re the Australian series:

There is one episode available on Vimeo, which is a "legitimate" video streaming site. Adam Hills is the subject.
From that single episode, SBS seems to have done a much more genealogy-oriented programme than the Americans have.

For anyone who has ever watched Channel 4's "The Last Leg" (and no doubt other things), Adam Hills will be familiar. ;)
I agree, the SBS series is far better than the American series the BBC seems to think we all want to see. :-\
-
I will have to try and see that Adam Hills episode. When we were on holiday in Australia we used to watch him hosting 'Spicks and Specks'. It was a great programme. I don't know why we didn't get it in the UK
