Title: RESOURCE QUEENSLAND DEATHS
Post by: bb10 on Wednesday 25 June 14 16:33 BST (UK)
I am trying to find record of my father's death.  Frederick James Brown, last heard of in 1953/4 in the Rockhampton area when we were informed of him being injured in a flood.  Enquiries at the time brought no response.  He was born in England in 1917, moved to Australia in 1949.  Lived briefly in Lagoon Pocket, then Monkland, Gympie until 1953.  May have died in 1953 - or of course after that.  I would be very grateful for any help.

Hi and welcome from me too.  Just had a look on Australian Cemeteries Index, but unfortunately no likely burial listed.

I am amazed by the number of helpful replies.  There are some very helpful people out there.  In response to Cass T and Rosie 17 - thank you for the hard work.  Yes, that is the family (I am one of them). The sad thing is that we heard no further news after hearing that Father had been injured.  It would be great to put that mystery to rest.  As I am currently in England I am finding it difficult to negotiate the Australian records so am even more grateful for the help.

Thank you Cass.  This is not the one as parent's names differ (actually John(Jack) and Eliza)  Tried myself but nothing came up although note that records stop at 1964.  Grateful for the try!

Death records are to 1984 in Qld
https://www.bdm.qld.gov.au/IndexSearch/BirIndexQry.m

Your father has occupation farm hand on his immigration file, which you possibly have attached to your private online tree
http://recordsearch.naa.gov.au/scripts/Imagine.asp?B=5049203
but was he still working as a farm labourer when you returned to the UK?

He was a painter at one stage prior to emigration.

A possibility :-\

Australian Electoral Roll
1954 Qld Capricornia/Eidsvold
BROWN Frederick James 110 Murray Street, Rockhampton Painter

1963 Qld  Wide Bay/Bundaberg
BROWN Frederick Brown 118 George Street, Bundaberg  Painter

1968 Qld  Wide Bay/Woongarra
BROWN Frederick Brown  2 Marshall Street  Burnett Heads  No occupation

No burial record at Bundaberg Lawn or General Cemeteries.

Keep in mind that if he died in Queensland away from family the informant may not have known his parent's names, so may not show up in indexes or may be incorrect or the informant's best 'guess'.

Thank you Cando.  This looks very promising.  Occupation of painter could be correct due to earlier employment.  I also take your point about possible lack of info by any informant - I had taken that into account in searches.  The electoral roll info is intriguing and I would like to investigate further. I am currently unable to access Australian info from England. Is there a means of sending me a copy?  Again so many thanks for your interest and help.

All electoral roll information is on Ancestry.com  There is no further information on the electoral roll listings.

Where one lives in the world today should not hamper you ability to search for information ie if the information is online.  I live in a remote part of Aus and my only access to information is online. I don't live anywhere near a library or family resource center.

Your local library in the UK may have the Ancestry Library edition available for you to use.

Have you browsed the Australian Resources and Offers Board - each state is listed individually.

Hi,

The Electoral Rolls on Ancestry are Commonwealth Rolls the Queensland State Electoral Rolls can be found at the Queensland State Archives and these rolls were annotated, that is when an enrolled person changed address, died, did not vote etc the rolls were often annotated accordingly.

If your Frederick can be positively identified as being on a State Roll then just keep checking the following rolls until a death annotation might be found.  I have had some great successes using these rolls.

If you want to contact the Queensland State Archives with a query use the following address.

I am willing to go to the State Archives to see if Fred is listed on the State rolls. (I find the districts/divisions confusing and they do change, so any guidance in where to look location wise would be most welcome  ;))

Agree with Gerry that annotations can be very useful too.

The rolls on ancestry are also show the annotations.  Often shown on supplementary rolls.
