Good Morning,
Carl PETER and family came to Queensland on the Wandrahm which arrived Moreton Bay January 1866. I have located a wealth of information on the family BDM's etc including their shipping details.
I have been told that son Wilhelm Friedrich August PETER aged 10 years died shortly after the vessel left Hamburg. However I am having problems locating the whereabouts of youngest daughter Emilie Albertine Auguste PETER born 2nd February 1862 who was 3 years, and Friederike PETER aged 20 years( I believe she is a daughter from Carl's first marriage).
I am trying to ascertain if Emilie and Friederike may also have died on the voyage to OZ or maybe when they were in quarantine ( however I cannot find them on the Dunwich cemetery listing).
Is there a list of passengers who died en-route, and if so, where could I source please.

Not a pleasant trip out by any means. Lots of deaths on that ship.
The Queenslander (Brisbane, Qld. : 1866 - 1939)
Saturday 24 March 1866
etc etc there were 48 deaths, including one on the day of arrival; we arrived on the 12th January; we had a good deal of calm weather to the line, and fair winds the remainder of the voyage; we had no bad weather; some of the immigrants were ill with the dysentery when they came on board; two children died forty-eight hours after we sailed; etc etc

It certainly was a horrendous trip, 48 died en route and then 22 in quarantine. Unfortunately I have not been able to locate the names of the 48 who died coming to Australia. Newspaper articles state a few but not the complete list. I believe that the medical officer would have compiled a list, but not sure where to locate it.

Maybe drop the QLD archives a email and see if they have any names of the ones that died. Their deaths may be noted on the actual passenger list??

Do you know when and where Carl died? Just sometimes obits might mention kids names and have if they are deceased or not.

Hi,
If you are able to see the ship's log book entries in total not just the passenger lists.
Every voyage had a ships surgeon or doctor and they had to keep records of all births and deaths during a voyage. Written reports were always made because doctors got paid extra money for each passenger landed at destination.
It may be that the log books haven't survived in their entirety, may be stored in archives either in Australia or England.

my family came over on the wandrahm, to this day we have no idea where my great great grandmother was interred, seems she died coming into moreton bay or near, the captain may have buried her at sea don't know, visited nth Stradbroke island 2013 visited the historical centre who had absolutely no idea about german immigrants, of the wandrahm, or names of interments at the benevolent cemetery, visited Dunwich cemetery no german almost names to be found from then, at 1 I was on the island with a friend, relatives there, I am sure they pointed us to a cemetery near amity point where they lived.
by all accounts their voyage was a nightmare
would like to see an image of the ship if possible, finding such images is like a treasure hunt

apparently the captain was subsequently charged and fined and prohibited from ever carrying passengers, not sure fine may have 10k pounds??

Also, if you can get access to the "Emigrants from Hamburg" series by Eric & Rosemary Kopittke, you may find more info.
The Qld FHS has those and so do many other FHS etc., in Australia.
