Title: Advice on interpretation of marriage record
Post by: mikebro on Monday 16 June 14 23:37 BST (UK)
I have found a record for the marriage of Peter Delaney to Josanna Brophy. The parrents of Josanna are listed as Thomas and Anne McGuirk. Looking at the original entry (http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/reels/st.nicholas_mf_1822-1880_ma_0210.pdf (http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/reels/st.nicholas_mf_1822-1880_ma_0210.pdf) it shows the bride as Brophy alias McGuirk. Would people think that this is a second marriage i.e. Rosanna McGuirk (daughter of Thomas and Anne) married a Brophy. Then widowed or divorced, marries Delaney?

Any other interpretation?

Thanks in advance.

Mike

Thomas McGuirk baptised 1859
Son of Patrick and Mary Maguire
Sponsor Rose Brophy

Patrick might be her brother.

I think she married Timothy Brophy in St Nicholas on 20 Aug 1852 and had two children with him.

Thanks. What I am trying to understand is how someone with a surname of Brophy could be the daughter of McGuirk?

Right
She marries Timothy Brophy in 1852 in maiden name Mcguirk she is now Rose Brophy she has at least 3 children up to 1859 between 1859 and 1863 Timothy Brophy most likely dies she is now the Widow Rose Brophy.
She marries Peter Delaney in 1863 as Rose Brophy with her parents named as McGuirk which was her original maiden name.

Unfortunately the marriage was pre registration but if it had been in 1864 as with all widows marriages you would get Peter Delaneys marriage with a match to two people Rose Brophy and Rose McGuirk.
