Hi,
I have ancestors from different families who come from Shepshed, their dates ranging from1770 to 1814. Does Shepshed have it's own records office or would I have to go to Loughborough?
Also which cemetary would they be most likely to be buried in?
Thanks for your time.

Greeting's......
If you post the names you are looking for
Then I'll have a look through my disk
which has Burials for the Village of Shepshed....
The best place for Parish Records would be :-
Leicestershire & Rutland Records Office.
Long Street.
Wigston Magna.
LEICESTER.
LE 18 2 AH.
Tel. 0116 257 1080

Shepsehd has it's own cemetary and some of the graves look quite old although I've not been there for a while. I think most people would have been buried here in the 1800's and they are still being buried there today. It is on Charnwood Road
I hope this helps.

you will find parish records for Shepshed in the family history centre at Loughborough library, on Granby st, as well as Wigston records office.

The parish church at Shepshed is St Botolph's. It has a cemetery which I explored in 2004 looking for ancestors. It appears to have burials during 1700s and 1800s.
I have transcripts of a few monuments for the names BAKEWELL and MERRIMAN - it would be too much of a coincidence if they were the names our were looking for :)
Cheers Sue

The home of our 6x Gt. grandfather , William Corbett, born 1740 in Belton, died c1831 possibly in Shepshed. He expressed in his will a wish to be buried in Shepshed. , 4 sons and a daughter are there in St Botolphs graveyard. but we can't find him? Would anyone have an idea of where we can look. Please

did you also check the extra small graveyard across the path from the main graveyard?
maybe he didnt have a stone.
There is a publication i use in L'boro library (presumably shepshed have it too ) listing with transcriptions all stones in St Bots.
I can check the local PRs next time in L'boro library ( just returned!!) for Williams death/burial.

thinkgs i did find:
* baptism:
William Corbett 6/4/1740 Belton s/o Joseph & Mary photo
* Shepshed valuations (property) 1823
William Corbett 13 /15 /31 Pick Street. he lived in 15 and rented others out. i have photos of entries & map showing position in town.
* Settlement certificates
name of people going to shepshed: William Corbett, wife & family
Date of certificate: 8 Jan 1768
Parish of legal settlement: Belton, leics
* the folder of burials i was talking about at church /on RC:
" A study of the churchyard Monumental inscriptions, St Botolphs, Shepshed. A Project study by Richard merriman, Leics university"
it includes stones that are standing / removed / lying. 10 that are unreadable.
i took photos of the William Corbett stone 1803. you may have seen it on your visit.
all photos sent to email.
I couldn't see a marriage in the IGI for Joseph Corbett & Mary.

family search has 4 children for a Joseph Corbett & Mary in Belton:
John 11/11/1735
Elizabeth 6/1/1737
William 6/4/1740
Mary 19/7/1744
there is also a marriage for a Corbett ( no first name) & Mary Elliott 1727 Shepshed(I could not find a marriage Belton)
maybe this is the reason that that william & family were allowed settlement to Shepshed - if his parents were married there

Greeting’s Diddymiller ….
Unfortunately my early Leicestershire Marriages CD start
Via another CD no record found for 1727 marriage or the Baptisms you found
Although it showed Corbett records way back to :~
1641 in Belton
John son of Francis Corbett 9th May.
Did spot this one on that disc
1700. Joseph. Son of John & Sarah Corbett Bapt. 15th Feb.
Which could tie in with that 1727 Marriage to a Mary Elliot ?
Via LDS site although we can not tell now days if this is a submitted one or not……..
MIKE. …….
