Hi

The parish records for Milton Abbas are in very poor condition, and difficult to read.

The death of John VACHER in 1656, looks to be a child ( son of George ( is he the son of John ?) and Elizabeth ).

There is a burial of a John Vacher 12 Jan 1694, the year after Dorothy.

There is a marriage in Poole in 1623 of a John VATER. This register is also in very poor condition and the brides name cannot be made out.

The protestation records of 1641 for Milton Abbas are transcribed online, on there there is a John VATYER snr and John Vatyer jnr. Wonder if this could be him, if so he was still alive then.

When I thought that my family was descended from the Vachers, I did a lot of analysis on dates and name variants. I concluded that the Vayters were definitely the Vachers and this alternative spelling only lasted for about forty years or so before reverting to Vacher.

If I recall, the Weyitts go back to the late 1500s in Weymouth!

Good hunting.

Hi,
If this is of any help -
Dorset OPC lists in Milton Abbas Marriages 1559-1812

Thomas WELLS son of John Vacher & Dorothy (of Wareham) WEYITT daughter of John Weyitt of Mordon married 01-Jul 1655

which is not a record of John Vacher and Dorothy Weyitt but does link the names!

maz   who also needs help on a Vacher ancestor, but not on this thread  :)

Hi,
Having seen a few other posts, I though this may be the case.  Thanks for the clarification, particularly as I'm looking into the Vacher family in general and the George Vacher/Elizabeth Painter family myself - hopefully the lovely person at Milton Abbas can sort it all out.
Thank you!    cheers    maz

Subject, Dorothy Weyitt,
Unlikely to be born in 1605 as she was named in the marriage banns with her husband Thomas wells
(note husband and not son) in1655 when she would have been 50. I can not find the actual record of the marriage, maybe they had second thoughts.
As for her burial in 1693 as she didn't marry a vacher(or a Wells) that Dorothy buried in 1693 was probably the Dorothy daughter to John and Christine born in 1686 (john being the eldest son of George and Elizabeth) Incidentally john and his brothers Richard and Jethro had 30 kids between them!
Regards Chris Vacher circa 1950.

Hi Debs,
You probably know all this already by now,
Josiah Vacher ( great name!) was born 26-12-1710
Father Jethro, Mother Mary,
Married Sarah Hox ( she died in 1746 )
Married Jane Sanders in  1749.
Had one child Benjamin in 1753 who later became church warden at Milton abbas.
Did you find George's entry in the church wardens accounts in 1656 suggesting that he was a blacksmith?
Regards Chris Vacher.

John Vatyer senior was George's Dad
John Vatyer junior was Georges brother ( born about 1621 to be 18 in 1641)
William Vatyer was probably George's brother born about 1622
I believe John sr was probably born nearer 1600 than 1605
Georges other sibling was Mary born in 1629 who married Robert Barnes in 1653 which suggests
to me that the elusive Mrs John Vacher Sr was more than likely called Mary!
please feel free to prove me wrong. (with evidence of course !)
Regards Chris Vacher.

Post by: Vacher on Tuesday 15 December 15 16:39 GMT (UK)
Hi everybody,
I need some help, I've lost George and Elizabeths two sons that's George (1659) and Francis (1662)
I'm sure I had them christened but I haven't seen them since , no marriage's , no kids , I don't think
they died, maybe they're doing a Highlander.
Maybe they got on one of them galleons and founded a colony in the America's,
Please let me know if you find them anywhere.
And tell them from me they're in big trouble!
Merry Christmas
Chris Vacher.
