Title: U.S. Descendants of Joseph Wildgoose & Eliz.Jane Rendle/Wilson Bakewell
Post by: Jerseyfox on Thursday 12 June 14 21:09 BST (UK)
This Wildgoose family branch came to New Brunswick, N.J. c. 1880. This family with 12 children came and multiplied.  I have a huge tree on Ancestry, but am looking for living descendants.

Regarding searching in the US, sites like www.switchboard.com and www.whitepages.com can be helpful in finding current addresses and phone numbers.  Obituaries can be helpful to find more recent names/locations of living descendants.  Doing a Google search for specific names may also yield obituaries or other information.

Hi,

Welcome to Rootschat from me to.

Looks like the surname Wildgoose changed a little over time - the line of Charles Herbert Wildgoose and Garrata produced a son Herbert W in 1907 - Herbert seems to be married to Dorothy M on the 1940 census and they have a son.  If you check the name of the son born 1936 under the spelling Willgus then you should find a match for him on http://www.whitepages.com/
There is an entry for Herbert W Willgus on FIND A GRAVE  the headstone mentions the wife Dorothy shown on the 1940 census - also mention a U Sieglinde 1929 - 1983

From the same line Lee R Willgus shows an occupation State Police at h 271 Sandford New Brunswick New Jersey in the 1938 US Directory. His father Charles is also shown at the same address - Chas H Willgus (June) slsmn  - h 271 Sandford.  (June was Garrata June)

In the 1940 Directory Lee is listed as a State Trooper at the same address. The surname for Lee is spelt Wilgus on the 1940 census and he is still single - New Jersey State Police Barracks - Ewing, Mercer, New Jersey.
The FIND A GRAVE entry gave no clue as to other family.

Hackettstown NJ Gazette 1957-1958

State Police Lieutenant Lee R Willgus was awarded a first annual New Jersey Tax payers Association citation for the suggestion having the greatest potential  for improving the services of government and decreasing it cost - He recommended a method for distributing uniforms which effected actual savings of 2935 state police man-hours and eliminates 70, 000 hours of travel.

You found one ! Or almost, Joseph Wildgoose was born in abt 1821 in Bakewell Derbyshire to Samuel Wildgoose and Ann Frost. Ann Frost's grand father was a blacksmith William Frost , born in Bakewell 1761 , he is my GGGG grand father. Ann is my cousin,  4 times removed and Joseph is my 2nd cousin 3 times removed. So not very close but I am living.

Regards
Mike Dabell, living just outside Bakewell. As a rule we don't stray far !

Hi,

Welcome to RootsChat

Unfortunately the original poster never responded again after the original post which is a shame. The only way to find living descendants is to try and come forward as far as we can, without naming living people.  RootsChat is a forum for searching for ancestors. Anything posted on the internet is in the public domain where anybody can see this information. To protect people and their identities the site do not encourage the posting of information about people who are or maybe still living.

This as Joseph and Elizabeth with family in North Brunswick, Middlesex, New Jersey 1900.

Joseph Wildgoose   55 Born February 1845 Eng. Married 1870.
Elizabeth Wildgoose   53 Born Jan 1847 Eng.
Evalyn M Wildgoose   26 Born Aug 1873 NJ.
Charles H Wildgoose   22 Born Nov 1877 Eng.
Joseph T Wildgoose   17 Born Aug 1882 NJ.
Elizabeth R Wildgoose   16 Born Aug 1883 NJ.
Lilien M Wildgoose   14 Born Aug 1885 NJ.
William A Wildgoose   13 Born Nov 1886 NJ.
Andrew V D Wildgoose 11 Born Oct 1888 N.
Robert R Wildgoose   8 Born Oct 1891 NJ.

If you have access to ancestry - one of the family tree's tree's has photographs of Elizabeth Jane Rendle and Joseph Wildgoose.  Interesting to see if there are family resemblances.
