I have Frederick A Wood born June 1921 Wandsworth using FreeBMD it says mother's maiden name: Southwell. So I looked for a marriage of Woods to Southwell and came up with Albert J Wood and Sarah Marion Southwell again using FreeBMD.
I cannot find a birth for Albert J Wood as I don't know his birth year. If nobody can help I will send for their marriage certificate and hope that his father has a name that is easy to find.
Thanks
Carol

How did you identify Sarah's middle name? She is just Sarah M on FreeBMD for the marriage.
-
Oh I see - you've presumably found the 1896 birth of Sarah Marion Southwell in Wandsworth.
Have you looked for a death for her? Finding where she died may lead you to a death for her husband, and thereby his age or birthdate depending on the date of the death registration.

Just a note of caution - you have alighted upon this 1915 marriage, but have you also seen that in Dec qtr 1911 a Frederick W Wood married in Wandsworth to either Daisy Southwell or Mabel H Gadd?
-
Frederick William Wood married Mabel Harriet Gadd 7 Oct 1911 ;)

Ah good - that rules that one out then :)

Frederick A Wood married Enid M Clay in Fulham in Dec 1944. I know that is definitely right. I have his birth in 1921 and his sister Doris 1916.

Possibility (but marriage cert needed as you say) is Albert J Wood birth registered Wandsworth Q3 1899, son of Albert and Rosa, living in Wandsworth 1911 (Sarah M was born Battersea). Does Rosa's name come down the family perhaps?

I found that as well, on 1901 census it says that were born in Clerkenwell. I will send for his marriage certificate and hope the father is on it and also his age.
Thank you

The cert will hopefully clarify things. If I may say though - the 1901 Clerkenwell Albert J is not the same as the 1911 Wandsworth one. There were two Albert J's, one registered Wandsworth Q3 1899 (thought to be son of Alfred and Rosa) 1911 has birth place as Tooting which is in Wandsworth reg district.
The other is, like all the rest of the family, born north of the river, place given as St Lukes which was part of Holborn dist at that time, registered Q4 1900.
Be interested to hear the result!
MaxD
That all said, it makes him 15 at the time of the Wood/Southwell marriage you started with, doubts creeping in!

If you had this marriage cert,it would tell you who his father was.
Then you'd be sure you were barking up the right tree ;D

I also can't find any records for Sarah Mabel Southwell. I am going to have to get the birth record for Frederick A Wood in 1921. I hate the FreeBMD as it doesn't give much information and my payout is getting bigger getting certs from GRO.

The Army info gives Frederick A Wood born 20 March 1921 as son of Albert James Wood & Sarah Mabel. ;)

Thank you Rosie, you saved me some money there. I am banging my head over this one. I can't find anything about either of them.

(Presumably sister) Sarah accompanied Albert to N Surrey District school in 1900 and again in 1901. Mother recorded as Harriet, a widow, There is a death of an Albert James Wood in Wandsworth in 1898. Haven't yet tied Harriet definitively to Albert S senior but both 1881 and 1891 have likely candidates. Could be Harriet Clapp, married Q2 1880 to Albert james Wood St Saviours.

Father of this Albert James Wood is Charles - both have occupation of Pig Dealer on marriage to Harriet Clapp, father Samuel also Pig Dealer.
-
The witnesses were F? Cripps and Bridget Foley.
Sarah Marion Southwell - I have already researched that one, wrong father.
-
Well I haven't got any further. I am now trying to get his service record from the Guards Archivist.
Thank you all for giving your time to try and help.
