Hi Marie
Pretty hopeful I have found your HEGGIE family under HAGEN on the 1881 Census for Greenock RNF. Your message didn't say, but was your Margaret Jane HEGGIE nee MOSS born 13 May 1858 Dunbarton to James MOSS & Sarah HAGAN? If so she was abt 23 yrs old at Census 1881. If this is your Margaret, lord only knows why in 1881 they enumerated HEGGIE as HAGEN - Margarets mother's maiden surname ;) - but then, if James was Irish, perhaps his accent was mis-understood by the Census man.....?? The child Annie in the house is exactly the right age for your Annie HEGGIE born June 1880. Also, although it doesn't have James as a Sugar Labourer (just Labourer), there is another man in the house of that occupation and very likely they all worked at same place. Also, the Census Margaret was a Milliner - maybe this is also a matching marker for you?

Hi Marie,
My gggrandmother was Jane Hagen who married James Emerson in County Down in 1856. They left for Scotland early 1860s and settled in Roseneath, Dunbartonshire. Jane's parents were James Hagen(farmer) & Jane Melvin. Is this the same Hagen family you are researching? I had the same problem with Jane's surname as she was listed on some certificates as Heggie!

Hi Janice
have just read your message. It is the Heggie family I'm tracing. The family from 1881 census that was found under Hagen should be Heggie. For some reason they have used Margarets mothers maiden name Hagen. (hope this makes sense). Margaret Jane Moss (who married a Heggie) had parents James Moss and Sarah Hagen and was in fact born in Dunbartonshire. Do you know where abouts in Co Down your family married???? And do you know the names of Janes parents. I have the death cert for Sarah Moss (nee Hagen) and her parents are listed as Heggies!!!!!!! Hard to follow. Sarah Moss (nee Hagen) was born in Ireland and married in Co. Down as well. Hopefully there may be a connection.

Hi Marie,
My Jane Hagen was born 1838 married in Clough non subscribing Presbyterian Church in 1856. They were both 18 years old and both living in Drumcaw at the time of marriage. Drumcaw and Clough are in the Parish of Loughinisland. All I know of Jane's parents are their names James and Jane (m.s. Melvin) and that James Hagen was a farmer living in Drumcaw.
Hope this is of some help.
Best wishes

Hello..this is an older message so you may no longer need this information but thought I would pass it along just in case. Annie Heggie died 07 Jun 1953 in New Monkland, LKS. She was married to Allan Miller and previously married to Samuel Grant. Her parents are Jas Heggie and Mgt Jane Moss. Death informant was her husband Allan Miller. Not related...just happen to have the information.
