Title: William Broughton
Post by: AthenasMoon on Thursday 12 June 14 14:03 BST (UK)
Hello,
I am looking for any information on my great great grandfather William Broughton.
I am pretty new to searching South Africa's records, and can find no trace of him so far.

He was born 1869 in Cape Town, however it is possible that it was either Port Elizabeth or Durban.
He immigrated to Scotland around 1890 with his grandfather, James (unsure if James was a Broughton or a McKnight) He also had a sister called Margaret.
Any help with finding him or their line would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Hi Rosie,
Thanks for getting back to me and for having a look, yes that is the right William, I have him once he has moved to Scotland, and married to Mary, but really struggling to find anything on him before he crossed the waters from South Africa.

Yeah, I have his death, he was shot in the leg in the war on the horse artillery in WW1, crazy that you could die from that back then!
Im not sure his sisters year of birth, but I believe she did move to Scotland at some point, but I couldn't say when, it was at a different time to William, as he went alone with his grandfather, to family in Scotland. I assume that she is younger and went after William went.
