Hiyall ;)
I am trying to track down a Esther Grace Lyons who was born 1881 Melbourne, Victoria to Isaac Lyons and his wife Mary Theresa O'Brien. I am also trying to find out what happened to her daughter.
Grace married George Thomas Blore 1904 North Melbourne. They had two children before George was Killed in Action 1917. Trevor GV Blore (died London 1972, I have lots of information on him - he travelled the world with the Navy and was a writer/journalist) and Vivienne L Blore. I dont know if Vivienne died young or not because I have seen a few trees that suggest Trevor was their only child, but newspaper reports on George's death suggest he had two children when he died, and his Army Record Pension also names Trevor and Vivienne.
Grace may have remarried but Im having trouble tracking her down and I havent a clue what happened to Vivienne L Blore and I cant trace a year of birth for her either but Im guessing between 1906 and 1917 in Victoria.
I found Esther Grace Blore residing at St Kilda in the Victoria Electoral Rolls until 1919 then she disappears.
All help greatly appreciated, as ever ;D
Cheers

Hi Jan
there is a indexed marriage for an Esther Grace Blore in 1927 to a Lewis Henry Braham in Victoria
You'll probably have to get the marriage certificate as there is no other information on the index.
There is also a Vivienne Blore (no middle initial) marrying a Henry Charles Kay in 1937 that could be a possible

Death of Esther Grace Braham in 1934 in East Malvern, aged 47, confirms her parents as Isaac Lyons and Mary O'Brien
Age is a bit off but confirming the parents it's her.

Thank you so much!!!
I will certainly look at these - I think you have definitely found Esther for me - Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you,

OOOOps Leanne - our posts crossed :)

No problem ;D
even blanket searching just on Vivienne/Vivian or just using Blore and Bloor or Lyons turns up nothing for her birth all the way up to 1917. Unless she was not born in Australia or at least not Victoria? Mind you UK search turning up nothing too.....
random google search turns up Vivienne Lesley Blore born 1917. http://www.ancientfaces.com/person/vivienne-lesley-blore/139888944
there is an Ogs Brow in Queensland that may be worth looking at as I can't find anywhere called 'Ogs' otherwise

Perhaps Merlin will have more to offer on the meaning of OGS, but I can tell you that George and Esther were living at Alexandra Rd East St Kilda Melbourne in 1914. This was in the Electoral District of Orrong. I can only guess the OGS might be some sort odd abbreviation of Orrong

You have probably seen George Thomas BLORE's WW1 record online from the National Archives. There are a few addresses given for Grace and you may be aalbe to work out where she was living at the time of Vivienne's birth which would probably have been within the first half of 1917 given that George embarked for England on 25 September 1916.

Hi again Jan ;D
Searching the birth index to 1920 twenty brings up 14 births registrations, seven of which were illegitimate with OGS and MELB OGS, as place of birth. Two previous birth registrations prior to the BLORE reg were for a birth at YINNAR and Yea and the following registration numbers for an unnamed child on the Brighton Train and once again two births at at OGS. As you probably know you are unable to purchase birth certificates for births within the last 100 years in Vic. The 1914-1920 Vic bdm CD was published before the legislation was passed. Merlin will probably know what/where OGS represents. :)
Jan the digitised WW1 service file for George also confirms the family information including children's names along with many addresses for Edith;).
I wonder why Esther Grace and chn weren't mentioned in the family death notice for George T?

I do notice that a number of births with the OGS after them as place of birth were to women without a registered father to the child..
What do others think?

Hi Jan
there is a indexed marriage for an Esther Grace Blore in 1927 to a Lewis Henry Braham in Victoria
You'll probably have to get the marriage certificate as there is no other information on the index.

In 1919and 1924 the Electoral Roll shows
Address Finch St East Malvern
BRAHAM, Lewis Henry Solicitor
BRAHAM, Mabel
Mabel died-
BRAHAM Mabel
Father LYONS Saml

Death Place MALV E

George BLORE enlisted August 1st 1916
It may be interesting to know the month of the year 1917 for Vivienne's birth.
It must have been difficult for George to leave his wife expecting a baby and it had been a long gap between babies too, I see.
Sue

Sue, he embarked for England on 25 September 1916. He may not have known she was pregnant. I'm like you - would like to know the date of Vivienne's birth - she may not have even been born when he was killed.
His will is on PROV - Esther Grace BLORE is the executrix,; will is dated 24 September, 1916, address at that time: Queen's Mansions, St Kilda. Probate was granted 15 February, 1918 at which time Grace's address was 42 Foote St, Albert Park. The inventory shows he owned land in Monbulk.
Esther Grace BLORE was the sole beneficiary.

OGS is an abbreviation for Office of the Government Statist.
The 1914-1920 index also shows other abbreviations on some birth registrations:
O G S (with spaces), GOVT STATIST & STATISTS OFFICE.

Vivienne was born before 5 Sep 1917 as that is the date on the Pension Statement that appears in his NAA file.
Given that the OGS was involved, my guess would be that her birth registration was probably late. Some of the others on the index appear to be late registrations &/or alterations that require approval from the OGS.
-
Well, :o :o :o
As usual when I post on the Aussie board - oodles of lovely information :D :D :D
Thank you everyone - your time and effort is very much appreciated :)
I havent a clue when Vivienne was born - Like Merlin says the records for his pension state "2 children" in Sept 1917. Merlin's registration ref: states 1917 and Unfortunately her funeral notice doesnt give an age. There are tree's on GR and other sites which have her born anywhere between 1904 and 1918 :)
and you're right - I found it a bit weird that his wife and two children weren't on the Killed in action notice.
Thanks once again
Cheers
Jan ;D

A most interesting thread.
From Merlin I have learnt about the Office of the Government Statist, a body whose roll in BDMs I had never been aware of before.
;D Learnt a bit about the Good Sisters too, though irrelevant as it turns out ;D
Always good to hear from you, Jan
Sue

Thanks, Merlin. I've learnt something as well.
Am I right then, in thinking that it's possible that Vivienne's birth may have been well before the date of registration?

Good to hear from you too Sue ( ;) ) and Cando - cant believe it's 9 years since my first post :o
I learn loads off all of you, every time I post a request :) I must update another post about my grandfather-in-law - some of you may remember about the rogue who "went on holiday" on VJ Day 1945 and never returned - all you lovely people found he had died in Adelaide. ;)
I am now looking at George Thomas Blore's younger siblings all born in Victoria, all children of George Blore and Carrie Crowle (Sarah Jane caroline to giver her the full title)- :
William John Blore b 1882 Coralie Jessie 1883, Nellie Louisa 1886, Percy Norman 1887, Alfred Houghton 1888, Harry Scholes 1889. I have gathered sufficient info on George's older siblings Mary Caroline, Lydia janet, Edith Ellen and Ethel Barbara.
In case any of you are wondering (I know lots of you know me already) The family I am researching are all descendants of LYDIA TIVEY and John HOUGHTON, Mary Houghton, their daughter b 1821 Melbourne, Derbyshire, married Thomas BLORE, a tailor in 1845, he was found guilty of 4 accounts of fraud and sentenced to 7 years deportation in 1848. (finally deported to Tasmania in 1850) Mary, his wife and George (their son b 1846 Derby) joined him in 1858. I found two other children born -Tasmania Alfred and Lydia Mary. I have lots of info on Alfred and his offspring - apart from his birth registration which was c1859 (acc to death). Lydia Mary died a spinster. If any of you are bored and want to help then please feel free to add information or links - all help appreciated as always :)
Cheers

Gippsland Farmers Journal 29 Jan 1918
The Supreme Sacrifice. Old residents of Traralgon will remember Mr Geo. Blore, who conducted the "Eazywalkin" boot shop nearly 30 years ago, and previously had charge of the old Hey field flour mill.
"The Argus" of Friday last contains the obituary notice of his son George, who has made the supreme sacrifice in France. As a boy the late soldier attended the Methodist Sunday- school, and also the State school. In after years he joined the Public Service, and won a good position with the Closer Settlement Board. He answered the Empire's call, and though the Board advised him to enlist for home service, he preferred to go abroad. He subsequently made an improvement to the artillery, which was submitted to the Imperial authorities.
This brave soldier leaves a young wife and two children.

For any who are still following George Blore: The Australian War Memorial in Canberra will be commemorating his life in their Last Post ceremony to be held at 4.55pm on May 3rd this year. They honour the life and sacrifice of a different person every day, and the calendar is on their website. They are interested to hear from family members to obtain a biography and also a photo of the person honoured.
Family members are invited to attend the 5 minute ceremony and lay a wreath. It is streamed live on the AWM website and then a video of the service is added to the website after about 6 weeks.
This is a fairly recent initiative so I thought it was worth bringing it to people's attention. Hope this helps.
