I have recently received some information from Liverpool Central Library about Wilhelmina. The religious creed register shows that she was admitted from 2 Auson Terrace in February 1883, then in 1885 she was shows on the Parish of Liverpool Industrial Schools register until 1886. Her mother, Ann was deceased. I'm not sure, but I think she was staying with someone called May Porrell (Powell), 6 Boneded Street ?,
Would this be a foster parent? I don't know when her mother died as I haven't been able to find a death for her and have been unable to find either Wilhelmina or her mother in the 1881 census.
Any comments would be appreciated.

Which census do you have Wilhelmina living with May Powell?

Hi, I'm trying to find out where Wilhelmina wa between her birth in 1876 and 1885 when I think she was admitted to kirkdale industrial school. The religious creed register is dated 1883 and that is where May Powells name appears.

ok here goes, this is what I have found so far (hope it makes sense)
In 1881 all I could find was a Caroline Lucas living with her daughter Wilhelmina Lucas. Bit of a long shot I know, but I decided to see if I could find a death for Caroline. I did, she died in 1885, what was her address 2 ANSON TERRACE, I think there is some connection here. What do you think?

Well spotted gabbers !! ;D

haha thanks, I love a good mystery although it doesnt account for her mother being called Ann on baptism :(

Thanks for all your posts. I think, looking at the paperwork I have, that Wilhelmina was admitted from the workhouse in 1885 to the industrial school. Is the religious creed register for a workhouse? Regards

Found this whilst googling the net :
It's a register kept by workhouse masters to record info about inmates including their religious creed. As adoption wasn't a legal formality until the 1920s I guess the creed register might record who a child was boarded out to, which was a sort of forerunner to adoption.

So by the looks of it then Wilhelmena was staying with May Powell at 6 Boneded St (?) until she went into the workhouse.

Hi
I got this reply today from Liverpool Central Library:-
"I think the name is May (or possibly Mary) Powell of 6 Benedict Street, Stanley Road. This street is not listed in the 1881 census index but it is there on the 1891 census and there is a Powell family (headed by Peter Powell) at no 33 Benedict Street but no Mary (May) in the household. It was in Bootle just to the north of Liverpool"
So Benedict Street was built after 1881, so once again were was Wilhelmina?

Hi amethyst0_9,
I think gabbers answer ~ reply #8 is well worth a look at.
1881 census: BOOTLE: 21 Mann St.
Caroline LUCAS hd mar. 35 bn Newent Gloucs.
WILHELMINA LUCAS dau. 4 " Liverpool Lancs.
Joseph Berdin lodger aged 31 flatman bn Cheshire.
Class: RG11, Piece 3689, Folio 138, Page 35.
A death then in 1885 of a 39 year old Caroline Lucas who lived at no 2 Anson Terrace.
I think this is well worth looking into, thanks to gabbers!!

I will look into to this, but I have to admit, that it's the mothers names that throws me out, it's Ann on all of Wilhelmina's information I have, even on her admission details on the religious creed.
Once again thanks to you all for taking the time to help.
