Title: Edward and Mary Bassett
Post by: Dannemois on Wednesday 04 June 14 12:56 BST (UK)
Hi
The following details for Edward and Mary Bassett are from the Forest of Dean family history website and I wondered if someone could help locating any other details.   Mary Jane Bassett, buried April 3, 1920, age 35 and Edward David Bassett, buried 19 Sept 1951, age 72.  Both buried at St Stephen’s Cinderford.  I would appreciate any help.
Thanks Roy

PS were there any other details on the service records, such as father's name, where served, awards, discharge etc

Hi Cas
First off many thanks for the details. After the birth of son Trevor Owen (Feb 1910) in Cinderford, Edward & Mary relocated the family to Brithdir in the Rhymney Valley of Glamorgan shortly after and they were in residence there by the 1911 census and where Mary gave birth to second son William Edward George on 8 June 1912.  The new addition was baptised at St Stephen's Cinderford on boxing day 1912.  From what I have learned to date it would appear at some point Edward & Mary returned to Cinderford.  Fingers crossed, I am hoping some kind person just may find an obituary or a photo of their gravestone in St Stephen's burial ground.   The army records look promising.
Kind Regards, Roy

Hi Cas
Were there any other details on the army service records such as name of father etc.  Located two entries on the 1881 for a Edward Bassett born 1879 but unfortunately unable to identify the Edward I am researching.

Hi Roy

I have just been on the FoD site and according to the transcriptions

your Edward and Mary are buried at Cinderford St John, not St Stephens!

If you post a request on the FoD site Forum someone may be able to photograph the graves for you.

It looks like above David's father was also a David. Have a look on Stroud census - he was born there c1820 and stayed in the area.

Hi
I've spent some time browsing through the site earlier; which is a great source for anyone with a Bassett connection.  As you say there could be a connection to the family I am researching but as yet I haven't made the link.  Again many thanks for your help, time and efforts which are very much appreciated.

regards, Roy

I will soon be adding your line to my Bassett website (www.bassettbranches.org) as new family #258B. What I have so far begins with the 1841 census where Charles Bassett, 55, is listed with son David, 20, and what appears to be his mother Ann, 90.

1851 census shows David with wife Ann, son William and father Charles.  They are living at Ruscombe, Stroud 1841 through 1871.

1881 census show Elizabeth with children Edward and Florence and sister Emily P. Summers in Whiteshill.
