I have posted previously on this site and as my father's Service Records was not listed it was probably destroyed re Burnt Series.
My father, Pte Ernest Mills, M/40356 (formally M2/054610) and I wrote to the M.O.D. 1989. With the information given I was able to find the 3 medals given for serving in WW1.
I have always been puzzled as MOD gave the following:
Enlisted Army Service Corp Regular Army 21.3.15
Discharge on Demobilization 25.6.19
Enlisted Royal Army Service Corps Army Reserve 26.11.24
Cause of Discharge: Termination of Engagement 27.11.28
Enlisted in the Reserve 5 years(which seems to be a long time in-between) after Army Discharge and would this mean that his Service Record could still be with the MOD. If so, where would I write for them to do a search. Thank you, Lookin2

Have a look at: https://www.gov.uk/requests-for-personal-data-and-service-records
See the section headed: Service Records of deceased Service personnel.
But I think everyone who was demobbed was placed on Army Reserve?
Just in case of further escalation?!

Thank you for your response. I just thought it was a long wait time from 25.6.19 Discharge to 28.11.24 to join the Reserve. Don't you think so. So you think it worthwhile to pay MOD for his Service Records? Lookin2

I'm not an expert, but - the record says "enlisted" which to me means just that - i.e. not the automatic placing on the Reserve on demobilisation - also the gap is too long. A four year service in the Army Reserve would seem to be about right for a man with previous military experience who fancied earning a few bob for spending a fortnight a year in camp.
As to whether that means that his records were with the MoD and thus escaped the Blitz, the only way, I think, would be to ask them.

I thought the timing was odd too so will go ahead and ask MOD to do a search for his Service Record.
Thank you for your response. Lookin2

If you phone Glasgow they will be able to tell you if they have records for your man as they have a list of all records on computer. This way you save £30 just sending off in hope.
They did this for me and when I did send off I got back all my grandfathers records from ww1 and 2 which we're not on ancestry hope this helps.

I think your suggestion is worth a try. Would you be kind enough to give me the telephone number you used. My father was from the London, Middx. area, and I hope Records will be available to enquire about in the Glasgow area. Lookin2 :D

Just ask them you are searching ( name) and was wondering if you have any records for him he served ww1 then from 1919 to 1924 in the reserve and any info if he served in ww2 even if home guard as his records could have been pulled from archives in London before it got bombed to prove his rank/service hope you have luck

He was not in the Reserve until 1924 unless it states something like 'Class Z' on his medal card. A certain number of men were discharged to Class Z Reserve in 1919 in case fighting started again. The Class Z Reserve was disbanded in 1920 after the major peace conferences.
You may be lucky as they may have obtained a copy of his WW1 record and added it to his 1924 enlistment papers. If so his record would not have been stored in the Arnside warehouse that suffered the fire in 1940.
I would think the chances are good as normally a recruits states on his second set of attestation papers only brief details such as 'ASC four years time expired'. For the Records people to have the actual enlistment/discharge dates may suggest there is more information in the file. You need to ask for a copy of the whole file, and not just a summary.

Thank you for your response. I am going ahead with suggestions given on this site. I do not live in the UK and it just takes a little longer as mostly all requests get sent by s-mail. If I am lucky enough to get my father's Army Records I will post on here. Again, thank you all for your help. Lookin2

I had a family member call the Glasgow tel.no. and he was told that they only answer questions on Tuesday and Thursdays which is good to know if others wish to try this route. They also asked him if he wanted Option 1 or 2.
The good news is they may be able to answer if Record is available but do you know what the Option 1 or 2 is. My family member is 88 yrs old and I would have asked what are the Options but he didn't. He said he will call again next Tuesday. Lookin2

I have just found a small bit of information which has faded considerably but I managed to get pieces of it.
Enlisted in Dapple(mentary?) Reserve Company C for 4 years from 28/11/24. London signature unreadable but it has RRO after it. On same page. a large a/25-006885, Edgeware Road. X4/2470 Edgeware Road.
He did receive a Form Z 11 on 26 May, 1919 at Crystal Palace . Regimental No. too faded to read. This form had stamps on it for payments made.
Would anyone have info on what the above means.
Thank you Lookin2
