I am looking for a Marriage for
Edward (Ned) Keane and Mary Keane ms Keane around 1860's or early 1870's
there children were born in Mullaghroe , Binghamstown Co Mayo .
On the 1901/1911 they are staying in Mullaghroe

Is this the family in 1911. http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Mayo/Binghamstown__South/Mullaghroe/709861/
If so they were married 42 years in 1911 so married circa 1869.
Is Mary's maiden name also Keane?
Have you found the birth of their first child ( to see if they moved since married)?
-
Hi, Yes I have found their 1st son Richard born 1870 and they seem to stay in the same area. Mary's maiden name is also Keane. I was over last year and met some of my relations who are still staying in Mullaghroe. I also tried searching for their marriage but could not find anything.
-
I can't find it in the index on FamilySearch, I couldn't find Richard's birth either, so I tried http://www.mayoancestors.com/default.aspx Mayo Ancestors, which seems quite good but even trying just Keane as both Surnames and leaving out the first names I couldn't find an Edward and Mary, and again couldn't find Richard's birth, although there is a possible Richard Cain with parents N.C and M.C, you have to sign up to see the parents full names.
No luck on RootsIreland either.

Hi, It was on Mayo Ancestors site that I found a few birth's and I think the one you found with parents Ned Cain and Mary Cain born Mullaghroe I have found that the spelling changes a lot but this is the right family, only need to find the marriage for Edward (Ned ) and Mary Keane thank you for taking the time to look

Hi there,
Ned & Mary Keane were also my gg grandparents. Their son Henry was my great grandfather.
I’ve done quite a lot of research recently into our family history & was delighted to see there are others doing the same.
I wondered if you ever found any details on Ned/Mary? I couldn’t find anything apart from the birth records for their children. No marriage record or death record.
I still have family in Belmullet (I live in the UK) and get back there as often as I can - it’s a beautiful place.

Welcome to RootsChat
Have you tried the parish registers
https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0742
or if Mary was from a different parish the surrounding parishes would be worth looking at.
-
The parish would be more likely Kilmore Erris.
Here is Richard’s baptism with surname Cain
18th December 1870
https://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000634629#page/35/mode/1up
Birth record shows him as Keane

Have you tried a Search like this on Civil Reg?
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/civil-search.jsp
You'll get all Marriages for Edward anywhere in year range, but with 100 per page just scroll throught them.

Thank you for taking the time to respond. I have tried all of these sources but had no joy with finding details on Ned or Mary, as I suspect their marriage may have been before the records began. I have had great success with other parts of the family, so all is not lost.

In 1911, Mary states 13 children born with 11 living.
There are 6 children at home.
1901 there are 9 children at home (the six above plus 3).
In both censuses, Richard is the oldest being 28yrs and 40 yrs.
His birth from baptism and civil registration shows a December 1870 birth.
If they were married pre civil registration, you would expect 2 or 3 children at least before Richard.
Really, this is just a thought as I also have searched but nothing shows up.
In that area, I find, that if you have a surname to search, it is very difficult as there are always so many!
-
Having same Surname is very handy for Richard's Baptism...... have you looked for Marriage after Baptism?
-
I just looked at Catholic indexes 1860s but nothing and that’s a good idea hallmark but can’t see a marriage either.
Perhaps they did marry in a different parish or some church records are missing.
Griffiths Valuation just has a Bryan Cane in Mullaghroe.
