He appears to be using the Ponsonby name by 1893 - see this from the Evening Express
Newport Borough Police-court on Friday George Galdos, a ship's steward, was sent to prison for a month for assaulting Arthur Ponsonby, a hairdresser, of Commercial-road, Newport. The prisoner was troublesome, and, on an attempt being made to eject him, fastened his teeth in the calf of one of prosecutor's legs and took a piece of flesh as large as a crown piece out.
Possible previous sighting in 1886 as well

Hi again, my fault did not look closely at the original of 1891 census for Mary Jane Telling, she was born in Mountain Ash, Glamorganshire, which ties in with the " Nurse Child" Mary Jane Regran in 1871 above, her birth registration then looks to be:-
Mary Jane RHESEGAN March qtr 1868 Pontypridd 11a 292
1881/baptism?

Hello Mabel,
Thank you for your help.

Hi Paul, how did you know and what knowledge do you have of the boys mentioned in your first post considering they were born Telling?
Allen A T Ponsonby marries a Linda M Clarke Sept qtr 1915 Abergavenny 11a 115
Think that Alma W marries as William Alma to a Martha Badham?
Expect Ponsonby sounded "upmarket" for a Hairdresser?
Keyboard86
PS Odd cannot gain any info on last born Ralph & Frank?

Found Frank had 2 records in the Merchant Navy one with "Talling" as middle name, born 16th May 1898 Newport (odd as that was the birth qtr/year of Ralph)? discharged 28th December 1923 Discharge No: 1087881 Card type CR1 Ship looks to be the "Sheaf Mead" Number 137072, he had a double butterfly tattoo and between right thumb and forefinger F W Ponsonby & "Doll"? Doris he was a Mess room Steward, he registered 4th January 1924 (again)? If so this ship was sunk by U boat in 1940 loads on Sheaf Mead on Google

;D If you see or contact your sisters friend, please ask what she/he knows of Ralph as I am happy with rest, even though that birth date given by Frank when in Merchant Navy is puzzling me!!
Also the marriage cert of Arthur H to Mary Jane would give clues ( possibly)? to her parentage! Or especially that birth cert in Pontypridd?

Paul, You wanted to know about Arthur Henry Telling Ponsonby. He was my grandfather. I can tell you what you want to know. You can contact me by Pm
-
Hi and welcome to Rootschat, suggest you delete that telephone number, you do not know who could give you a call from surfing the internet?!
Plus I am obviously intrigued as to who this man and his brothers are?

I am in some difficulty. Arthur was my grandfather not my great grandfather and obviously I can answer most queries concerning my family. However he was born in 1865 the year the American Civil War ended, so how can I summarize 150 years of family history on a public internet forum. If someone really wants to know because of some family connexion or their own ancestry then I can shed light on the subject. I mentioned the phone number because you said NOT to mention an e-mail address. How else can I communicate? Help!
-
:) Hi again just post 1 more time and you will be able to send a private message to Paul if you feel that is necessary, I personally would like to know of Frank and Ralph?

Thanks. After my grandfather died in 1910 on his 45th birthday of a heart attack following a family party, the family was decimated in many ways. Young Ralph decided to go to Australia to start a new life. He reached his destination but on arriving at Port Pirie he was crushed to death by a load of falling felled trees. He is buried in Port Pirie Cemetary. I hold the 100 year lease on his grave but it expired this year. Frank emigrated to Australia following the breakdown of his marriage. He was in the Royal Welsh Fusiliers and suffered from the effects of the War. He died relatively young in Ballaratt. He had a number of children there and I am in contact with his descendants. You will see how the bare facts of Public Records can never tell a full story.

Paul. We have been in touch but I have not heard from cousin Judy so I can tell her the Ponsonby family history. Is she on holiday?
-
Paul, I am anxious to talk to Judy as I have family memorabilia and information to send to her
