I am searching for the Downey family connected to the following Downey girls who came to Tasmania in the 1850's.
Catherine and Mary Downey were sisters arriving in Tasmania, as servants, on board the William Hammond in 1854. The ship records indicate they had 1st and 2nd cousins in Melbourne Victoria Australia and that their native place was Killkenny, Ireland. Mary settled in Tasmania and married John Paice. Not sure what happened to Catherine.
Another sister, Anne, arrived in 1857 - sponsored by her sister Mary. She also settled in Tasmania and married Richard Hanslowe. I have not been able to locate their parents or the cousins living in Melbourne. Does anyone have any information or leads?? :-[

Thanks Ros
Thanks for all the information. I am a member of Ancestry.com and so I already have all of the above information. What I really need is some information about their parentage in Ireland. So far I have been unable to complete the puzzle.
kind regards
Kathy

I dont have any knowledge on the Tasmanian marriage and death cert. but i would think one of them would have parents names noted. [If the informant of death knew parents names]

Hi
Unlike Victorian, Australian records, the Tasmanian marriage and death certificates do not list the parents names. Very unfortunate and frustrating.
