Hi Steve
For ref (found on other topics):
Joseph McCORMICK
1906: Born 28th June 1906 Scotstown, Renfrewshire (is this right?)
1939: Married in Blythwood Church in September 1939.
Was known to be in the Merchant Navy
Split from wife when their son was still a baby and became estranged.
Son had a 5 minute visit from Joseph visit 1954 in Blairgowrie, during which Joseph said was a Professional Golf Caddy.
The 1st 2009 topic (link below) had a reply, regards a Joseph McCORMICK, died 1959 in Lanarkshire who was born around 1906 (according to age registered at death) . Did you ever check this one out?

Not sure if you have this:
1942: UK Departures - Passenger List:
SS HEKTORIA, Departed Glasgow, 14 Feb 1942, for New York
Joseph McCORMICK, age 35, Seaman
Last residence: 45 Davie Park, Blairgowrie
Future residence: Scotland
New York Arrivals - Passenger List:
SS HEKTORIA, arrived 3 March 1942, New York
Joseph McCORMICK, 35 yrs & 8 mths, married
b Glasgow, married, Occupation: A.B. (ie: "Able Seaman" or in full, "Able-Bodied Seaman")
Last Permanent Residence: Blairgowrie
Contact in Home : Wife - Amelia McCORMICK of 45 Davie Park, Blairgowrie
Passage paid by Ministry of Transport
He'd been in USA before, in 1940, to Newport News. (sic)
He was 5', 3" tall, Fair complexion, Brown hair, Grey eyes with various tattoos.
The State Department issued a single visa for all the seaman travelling with Joseph.
The only marriage I see in 1939 Lanarkshire for a Joseph McCormick is to a woman first name Amelia, so I guess this is your grandfather?
Anyone who might be a descendant of Joseph's numerous siblings (and who might know what happened to him from their family history) might recognise the link from any of the smaller, personal details about him - address, names etc.
Cheers
AMBLY

That is my grandfather .... :) Thank you for that .... I didn't know about the ship or sailing to America ... Would love to find out what became of him .... there was supposed to be a letter that arrived many years later from Neasden London from someone possibly a half sister of my father but it was quickly burned by his mother .... so the contents are lost
