Forgotten how to drop a letter below. Can anyone advise what key to use please.

Press the enter key, on the right hand side of the keyboard. It has an arrow which goes back on itself, and is usually quite a large button.

If you mean when you're typing something on here, click reply to get the box to type in and above the smilies, you see a row of boxes, one is ^sup and the next one is _sub.  Use whichever you need to either raise a letter (sup) or lower a letter (sub).

If you mean in a word document, when you have the document open and are on Home, you will see some boxes B, I, U etc. and one that is x₂ and another x² again just use the one you need.
