Hello Jill
May I have a look-up please from your Penn parish registers? I am researching on behalf of a friend who is descended from the FRYAR's/FRYER's of Penn, Bucks. My friend's family seems to have most commonly used the spelling FRYAR.
The earliest record I have so far is Moses FRYAR born about 1739, location unknown. I am looking for his marriage about 1768 to Henrietta?
The christenings for Moses and Henrietta's children are on familysearch at Penn but could you check please to see if there is any additional information?
Moses c. 29 Jan 1769
James c. 5 May 1771
Hester c. 12 Dec 1773
John c. 18 Feb 1776
Thomas c. 27 Feb 1778 (my friend's ancestor)
Joseph c. 18 Jun 1780
William c. 12 Jan 1782
Elizabeth c. 19 Sep 1784
According to familysearch Moses was buried at Penn on 30 March 1802 and Henrietta on 10 August 1811 - could you please check these details also for additional information? Thank you.
I am also interested in Thomas' marriage to Mary ? about 1798 and any additional information that might be found in the records for their children's christenings (from familysearch):
Mary c. 16 Feb 1799
James c. 15 Feb 1801
Moses c. 20 Feb 1803
William c. 28 Oct 1804 (my friend's ancestor)
John c. 24 Aug 1806
I do not know when Thomas and Mary died.
Thank you!
Finally, William's details as well please! He married Ellen ? about 1826. Their children were:
Ann born abt 1826
William Free?? or just Free? about 1828
Thomas c. 28 Aug 1831
John c. 22 Dec 1833
Joseph b abt 1835 (my friend's ancestor)
Robert b abt 1838
Henry b 1842
Mary b 1846
Ellen died in Q1 1871 according to FreeBMD, aged 63 years.
I do not know when William died as have not yet found him or Ellen in 1861.
Thank you very much!
It is a big ask I know and there is no hurry. Your help is very much appreciated. I do not know Bucks at all so if there are any other online resources you can suggest please that might help that would be great. I have checked the resources on this website.
:o 8) ::) :P :D ;D
Thanks again and God bless you,

Looking at Bucks FHS PR disc
Children of Moses & Henrietta - William's christening date 13.1.1782, also there is Sarah 1.8.1767 which might make the marriage date earlier than 1768.
Henrietta's burial date 18.8.1811. There doesn't seem to be any other info, any extras added seem to be on the transcripts.

Hi Lynne,
Sorry - I've only just seen your request.
Hopefully, allisont has answered all your queries. If I can be of any further help - just let me know!

Hi Allison
Gosh, thank you, that's brilliant!!!! Quite a lot of gaps now filled in! :D
Thank you for the corrections, which may have been my typos, and the details of the additional children.
The burial for William in 1853 is perfect. He was born later in 1804 so would definitely have been 48 in early 1853!
Would it be possible to check several burials please?
William's parents Thomas and Mary were not on the 1841 Census that I could find. There is a possible burial for Mary FRYER on 4 Aug 1833 on familysearch but no birth year is given. Do your records have anything extra please?
There is nothing on familysearch for Thomas but he could have died in the 1830's as well. If it is not easy to search then not to worry.
With regard to two of the children of William and Ellen you found that were not on familysearch or on the censuses, Rhoda and Alfred, I have checked on freebmd and they died not long after their births. Could you please check for a burial for Rhoda in Apr-Jun 1841 (she was not on the 1841 census so it may have been a late registration on the civil index and could have been buried in March).
Alfred died in the June quarter of 1845 so possibly not long after he was born as well.
Thank you!
After receiving your information about the marriage of William to Helen DENNIS in 1826 I went back to familysearch to look for a christening for Ellen/Helen about 1808 but there was nothing.
(Familysearch's records appear to be incomplete for Penn.)
Googling brought up a website that showed the DENNIS family history, which gave me the information I needed! Apparently Ellen DENNIS was chr. 13 Oct 1808 at Penn, the daughter of Free DENNIS and Ann AXTON. Could you confirm this please from your records?
Is there a marriage at Penn for Free DENNIS and Ann AXTON please about 1804 or so?
Thank you very much for your help!
Kind regards and God bless you,

Hi Jill
Thanks for replying. Yes Allison was able to help with quite a bit and more! There look to be gaps in the records though as marriages are missing as well as some ages in the 1800's for burials.
As mentioned, this is not my tree but am helping a friend and Bucks is an area I do not know much about at all. Can you tell me what other church might have been used at that time where it might be possible to find the missing marriages? Or is it simply that the records for Penn are incomplete?
Thanks again.
Kind regards and God bless you,

Possible Marriage for Thomas FRYER, Bachelor, to Mary THEED, Spinster, 7 October 1798, St Mary, Amersham, Buckinghamshire
Witnesses, James/Sarah Fryer
A MOSES Fryer was a Witness to the Marriage of James FRYER/Elizabeth BURROWS, 18 May 1794 same Church
MOSES 1769 may have married twice as there is a Marriage 15 Nov 1810, High Wycombe to Grace MORGAN, and he is a Widower, Grace a Widow.
(Source FreeREG)
According to Genuki Penn is 3.6 miles SW from Amersham
Looks like they may have liked marrying in Amersham;
Eg;
WM Fryar of Penn Parish married Mary FORD, 20 May 1732 St Mary

Hi Trish
Thank you very much! The marriage of Thomas and Mary looks perfect and the witnesses are very likely Thomas' brother and sister from Penn!
I have noticed in the course of this research that Amersham is the registration district for Penn both in the census and in civil registration and its closeness to Penn also make it a possible alternative for records.
Will follow up on the other marriages you mention. Have checked FreeREG now and it only has coverage at the moment for Amersham in regards marriages to 1812 but can take another look at familysearch later as well!
Thanks again and God bless you, :D
