Hi there,
I have been looking at some of the amazing results of photo restorations and I wonder if a photo that I have a copy of my great uncle with some of his trophies would restore in the same way as an original photo
This man was my grandfathers eldest brother
Archibald Samuel Creswell BIRTWISLE
my grandfather was Clifford Ernest BIRTWISLE
They were two of twelve children born to Thomas Robinson BIRTWISLE and his second wife Mary Jane BIRTWISLE a draper of Northwich.
Archi, their eldest, was born
2 June 1876 Northwich Cheshire
and emigrated to Canada to become a Mountie in 1906
after being first a police constable and then in the Scots Guards for four years.
This photo was taken prior to him leaving so would be before 1900, so well over 100 years ago.
Before he left. My great uncle gave some of these trophies away to family members.
Archi was a keen athlete. runner swimmer and boxer and had won prizes for these events
My grandfather was given amongst other things a Royal Bonn Biscuit Barrel, pictured in the photo on the striped clothe and a Vienna wall clock. As I lived with my grandfather for many years. I am fairly sure that the clock was the large one in the photograph. I have inherited the biscuit barrel and would love to see the photo colourised if possible.
kind regards

Thank you so much for doing this, it may be still monochrome but certainly a lot clearer

Is this an original photo ? If so can you rescan it at a higher resolution. This is a very low 72 dpi and badly pixelated.
There are some very good tutorials at the top of the board if you need help

What an amazing photo packed with treasures. Now that would be a challenge, I wonder if a colour version will ever appear?

I had a quick play :)

That's amazing!!! The owner of the photograph will I am sure be highly impressed. It is I understand over 100 years old.... after your work you would think looking at the young man in the photo he had just come out of the local gym. lol

Sorry I missed this when it was first posted. He must have been a terrific athlete.

Wow thank you so much Pat
This is brilliant. So much so that I recognise a few more of the items from my grandfathers house. The clock is definitely the one he had. One of the carving sets, the silver thing with a strange shaped handle I am not sure if it was a cake tray or something similar.
Archi was inded a great athlete and a remarkable man.
He was apprecticed as a Cooper after he left school this was in 1891 on the census
1901 he was a police constable.
By 1906 when he emigrated to Canada to join the RCMP he had also been serving in the Scots Guards for 4 years.
He lived all over the place in Cananda. Indian Head Regina Sask. Niagara Falls Onrario.
He served in WW1 as part of the Canadian Expeditionary Force.
Took part in the Musical Ride
Was part of the Wembley Exhibition in 1924
was part of King George V1 Coronation in London 1935
received an MBE for services to the King
on retiring from the Mounties
He became chief of police of Charlottetown PEI and
was buried there at the peoples cemetery when he died in 1964 at 88 years old.
His descendants are still living on PEI to this day.
Kind Regards
