Title: Sellers family emigrated 1952
Post by: romanby on Tuesday 13 May 14 14:46 BST (UK)
Hi
I would like some help to check emigration lists to Australia for 1952
The family who lived in York were mother Sarah Elizabeth Sellers (1882-1969) : her son Alfred Sellers(1910-1984) and his wife Mary (1919-1979) and their children Patricia Sellers and Brian Alfred Sellers : I believe the name of the ship was Dorsetshire but I do not know where it sailed from or to. They appear to have settled in Drouin Victoria. Any information on this family would be appreciated.
Kind Regards
Tina

Hello Mike
Many thanks for posting your message which suggests we may be related to the same ancestor  George Richard Sellers born Foxholes, Yorkshire around 1857- I have yet to find his birth certificate.

He married Mary Ann Bulmer, 3rd February 1877 at a registry office in the district of Scarborough. They had 5 children Elizabeth Ann Sellers  born 1877. John Harwood Sellers born 1879, twins William Bulmer Sellers and George Richard Sellers born 1881 and Robert Sellers born 1884. John Harwood Sellers died in France in 1916 a casualty of WW1.

George Richard Sellers born 1881 was my maternal grandfather and moved from York to Darlington with his wife and family where he died in 1949. For some reason my grandfather's surname became misspelt and ended up on his marriage certificate and death certificate as Sellars and this continued with his children, some documents are written as Sellers and some as Sellars. It wasn't until I started researching the family that I became aware of this.
If this fits in with your research I would love to hear about John Harwood's widow and her family.
Thank you for getting in touch.
Kind Regards
Tina

Hi Tina
My brother in law Alfred Sellers b2-9-1910 York married 1947 my half sister Mary Marshall b21-11-1919 Pudsey. Left England 30-5-1952  Liverpool to Melbourne on board M V Dorsetshire.
Mary died  14-10-1979 buried Drouin. Alf died 5-4-1984 buried Drouin.

Alf's mother Sarah Elizabeth Sellers nee Hunter died 1969 buried Drouin (the widow of John Harwood Sellers)
Brian Alfred Sellers b21-2-1950 York died 1982 buried Drouin ( only son of Alf and Mary )
Alf and Mary have a daughter still living in USA. so I will not mention name
May I suggest you look up "Aust cemeteries" ---Victoria---Drouin (pronounced DR00-IN )

Alf also had an older brother John Hunter Sellers died12-3-1944 Burma WW2
Do hope this information is of use in your tree. Regards Mike

Note it was not compulsory to register a birth until.1875

Hi Mike
Thank you for your reply and also thank you Keyboard 86. Yes I had the possible date for the baptism.

Mike, I think John Hunter Sellers was Alfred's younger brother as John was born in 1915 Mar Q and Alfred in 1910. Do you have any information going back to the father of George Richard Sellers b.1857/d.1924.

Your half sister Mary Dykes Marshall Sellers died in the same year 1979 as my mother Ruby Sellers who was John Harwood Sellers niece and therefore Alfred's cousin .

Kind regards
Tina

Hi Tina
Yes you are correct about John Hunter Sellers being the youngest son.
My information from another site, John Hunter married Emma Jane Horner (1907-1968) on the 10-12-1938 and died 12-03-1944 WW2 Burma burial Rangoon Memorial, Taukkyan War Cemetery Yangon Burma. Service number 4543509.
One of my early memories was a toy sailing boat that Alf made me as a gift, Alf worked at the Railway workshops in York, I think he was building carriages for trains, always a very clever cabinet maker, Mary my sister was a nursing sister.
Sorry I know very little about George Richard, but my Dad and Mum raised ten of us and so my family history/tree does not take long to become very complicated.
Hope to be in touch again soon, Regards Mike

Hi Mike
Thank you for your reply and for reminding me about the Drouin cemetery on line site. I had looked at it a while ago but it was good to look at it again.
Do you know when /where Brian Alfred Sellers got married and what was Glenda's maiden name. It appears that they had two children and their daughter has the same christian name as my daughter and they were both possibly born around mid 1970's - coincidence or what?
Regards
Tina

Hi Tina
Brian Alfred Sellers 1950-1982 buried Drouin, has two children but cannot name them here as they may still be living. I have no contact with them nor do I know where they live.
If you would like their names and birth date and the name of his widow's maiden surname please send a private message. Brian's older sister is still living, and her last known address may be of some help. Regard Mike

Hi Aussie Mike
Your nee Sellers neice in America (my ex - we maintained contact through the decades - user name clue) has not had replies from you in a couple of years and we wondered if you have lost her contact details.  Not sure if this message is private or posted so cannot write her email here in case you have lost it.
